East City was a bustling metropolis, every bit as renowned as West City, where Capsule Corporation was based.
The two were currently the largest cities on Earth.
They were also Earth's two economic hubs.
In the past, West City's economy had been somewhat more developed than East City's, thanks to Capsule Corporation.
But then the androids had attacked West City, leaving it in ruins.
The androids had never visited East City, however.
So now, whether measured by its economy or its population, East City had become the most prosperous city in the Dragon Ball world, bar none.
Son Gohan descended from the sky and landed atop a skyscraper over a hundred stories tall, taking in East City's bustling traffic.
Cars streamed endlessly through the streets, and noisy crowds thronged the sidewalks, painting a picture of peace and contentment.
This was humanity truly flourishing.
Son Gohan really liked the world as it was now.
Half an hour earlier.
Elsewhere in East City.
Six biker gang members blew open East City Bank with explosives.
Boom!
Flames shot into the sky, and thick smoke engulfed the entire street.
"Ah! Help!"
"No! Please, let me go! I have elderly parents and children to support..."
Bang, bang, bang!
The robbers pulled their triggers, bullets bursting from their barrels and snuffing out one life after another.
As people died, the scene grew even more chaotic.
A robber carrying a submachine gun laughed brazenly. "Hahaha! Everyone, we're just borrowing a little spending money. If you insist on getting in our way, then sorry about this."
"Everyone, get down and put your hands on your heads!"
The bank employees all crouched down, trembling.
Satisfied with their response, the robbers pulled out sacks and began stuffing them with cash and gold bars.
But just then, an old man began loudly cursing the robbers, tears streaming down his face.
"Animals! You're all animals! You'll die horrible deaths, you animals!"
His wife had just been killed by the robbers' gunfire.
Now he no longer wanted to live either.
"Heh!" One robber grinned and pressed his submachine gun against the old man's forehead.
"Old bastard, got a death wish? Why shouldn't we do what the androids do? We're already being pretty merciful, aren't we?"
"Animals! You're animals, just like the androids!" The old man showed no fear at all.
"If you want to die that badly, I'll grant your wish."
The robber sneered and was about to pull the trigger, ready to blow the old man's head apart.
But just then, several police cars came roaring up and surrounded East City Bank, sealing off every exit.
"Shit, those pesky flies got here fast," the robber said with a frown, abandoning his plan to kill the old man as he looked at the police outside.
A beautiful, shapely policewoman stepped out of a patrol car, holding a loudspeaker as she called to the robbers inside East City Bank.
"Everyone inside, listen up! You're surrounded. I'm Videl, the captain in charge of this operation. Release the hostages, and I can promise you'll be allowed to leave safely."
"You have two minutes to think it over. Your time starts now."
Videl was twenty, dashing and spirited, with long black hair and a bold, vigorous look in her eyes.
She wore a uniform, her ample chest straining against it, while its cut made her long legs look even longer.
Uniform appeal at its finest.
The robbers inside the bank swallowed.
Then they began whispering among themselves.
"Damn, how can a cop be that gorgeous?"
"You don't know her? She's East City's hero cop. She's never failed to crack a case she's handled."
"Huh? She's that good?"
"No shit. Why else do you think she's a captain? I've seen her in action. She's great at martial arts and one hell of a fighter."
"We're screwed this time. I didn't expect her to be leading them."
"What do we do now, boss?"
"What are you scared of? We've got guns and hostages. Why should we be afraid of that woman outside?"
"It's not like she's got extra heads or arms."
"How about we hand over the hostages and have her let us leave?"
"Does she keep her word?"
"They say her word is her bond. She always keeps her promises."
"Fine, we'll do what she says. We'll release the hostages, but she has to guarantee we get away safely."
"Yeah, okay."
The robbers finished their discussion.
Then they shouted to the police.
"All right, Officer Videl, we'll do as you say. We'll release the hostages, but you have to guarantee we can leave safely."
"Let me warn you now: we've got plenty of guns and ammunition. If you go back on your word, we don't mind taking you down with us."
"What do you say, Officer Videl?"
Videl said, "Of course. I can agree to that. Release the hostages now."
"Fine," the robbers agreed.
Then, carrying sacks over their shoulders, they emerged from the bank with more than a dozen hostages and stepped out onto the road.
The dozen or so hostages were safely handed over.
The six robbers tossed their sacks into their cars and drove away.
They had never imagined they would actually be allowed to leave just like that.
The robbers' loud laughter drifted back from the distance.
"Hahaha! Videl, you bitch! Sooner or later, we'll fuck you to death! Hahaha!"
The police officers were instantly enraged by those words.
Outrageous!
How dare these men insult their captain?
A young male officer asked furiously, "Captain, when do we go after them?"
A cold glint flashed in Videl's eyes as she sneered. "Hmph, let them enjoy themselves for a little while. Well? Did you install the trackers and time bombs in their cars like I told you?"
The male officer nodded. "Of course. Here."
As he spoke, he handed Videl a tablet and a remote control. The tablet displayed the real-time locations of the robbers' two cars.
Videl watched the tablet for a while.
Then she took out a capsule and tossed it onto the ground, where it turned into a Jet Plane.
A few seconds later, she shouted, "All right, now! Go after them!"
"Yes, Captain!"
Several police cars roared off.
Videl piloted the Jet Plane herself and joined the pursuit.
The robbers' two cars tore along the wide road at breakneck speed.
Clutching the sack in his arms, one robber said excitedly, "Boss, where are we going to party tonight? With this much money, we're set for ages."
"Let's talk about that in a few days. For now, we need to lie low."
"Oh, sure. Whatever you say, boss."
"Ah! Boss, we've got trouble! The cops are catching up!"
One robber had spotted the police cars pursuing them in the rearview mirror.
"What?"
"Holy shit!"
Another robber pointed at the Jet Plane overhead. "That plane up there is probably theirs too."
"Shit, it is!"
"Damn it! That woman Videl went back on her word! She's coming after us!"
"Shoot that plane down!"
Several robbers raised their submachine guns and unleashed a barrage at the police cars behind them and the Jet Plane overhead.
The submachine guns spat tongues of flame, rattling nonstop.
Videl kept maneuvering her Jet Plane to dodge the bullets, but plenty of stray rounds still struck its fuselage, sending sparks flying with metallic clangs.
Videl's expression grew colder and colder.
Soon, the robbers' cars reached an empty stretch of road.
"Heh. Time for your punishment, you bastards."
Videl sneered and pressed the remote control in her hand.
Boom!
The two cars speeding along the ground exploded, sending cash flying everywhere.
All six robbers were flung out and tumbled across the ground.
Every one of them had sustained injuries of varying severity, their heads bloodied.
One struggled to his feet.
"Damn it, what happened?"
One of the robbers wiped the blood smeared across his face and demanded angrily.
"Shit! That damn woman must've rigged our cars! Damn it!"
"I've still got another car. Everyone, get in and let's go!" As he spoke, he pulled out a capsule.
But before he could turn the capsule into a car, several police cars arrived and surrounded them. Videl also brought her jet down from the sky.
She jumped out of the jet and strode over on her long legs, kicked one of the robbers to the ground, then planted her foot on his chest.
With a cold chuckle, she asked, "Were you the one cursing me just now?"
