An explosion rang out.
Thick smoke suddenly billowed from the skyscraper, and flames shot into the sky.
Glass flew everywhere.
Many people were cut by the shards.
Screams rose one after another.
By the time Pan and Bulla reached the scene, it was already in utter chaos.
At that moment, a giant bird wreathed in black vapor circled above the skyscraper.
The bird was thirty to forty meters long, its outstretched wings blotting out the sun.
From time to time, it tore through the skyscraper's windows with its talons, thrust its sharp beak inside, and snatched up people who had failed to escape in time.
The explosion earlier had been caused by its talons tearing into the skyscraper and smashing a huge display screen.
Pan tilted her head back and looked out through the gaping hole in the skyscraper, just in time to see the giant bird swoop past with a howl of rushing air.
Bulla ran over to Pan.
Pan said in bewilderment, "Its aura is so strange. It doesn't feel like a living creature's at all. It's all dark and nasty. So gross."
Bulla nodded. "Yeah, that's the aura of death."
"Hey, what are you two doing there? Hurry up and run!" A security guard saw that they weren't fleeing with the crowd and shouted anxiously.
If they stood there much longer, the giant bird would snatch them up like little bugs and eat them.
What were they thinking?
Had they been scared senseless?
Pan looked at the security guard and smiled. Planting her hands on her hips, she called out, "I placed third in the Junior Division at the last World Martial Arts Tournament, mister! I don't need to run."
