In the Smith Family's secret chamber, every magical creature composing the display represented the nature of that member's magic.
This was the invention of Font Smith, son of the ancestor William Smith. It recorded the status of every Smith Family member and could detect the magical essence of each Smith.
More remarkably, it used mythical or existing magical creatures to mark those traits—William Smith was probably someone like Hagrid, fond of magical creatures—making their characteristics easy to see. Of course, Ryan still had to consult Font Smith's Exploring the Unknown Creatures to understand it.
For example, members whose magical essence manifested as a Thunderbird were better at summoning wind and rain, just like a Thunderbird. Ryan's Ouroboros-like magical nature, meanwhile, granted him nearly endless regenerative power.
However, it was somewhat useless for wizards in Harry Potter.
After recalling the original story and reading the Smith Family's collection, Ryan discovered that a wizard's magic was more like physical stamina. Modern magic was stable and low-consumption, and the original story had never shown any wizard suffering from insufficient magic.
Even Avada Kedavra could be cast by ordinary young wizards. Its power was merely inadequate; according to Little Crouch, posing as Moody, it would only give him a nosebleed.
Moreover, magic in this world, especially certain advanced spells, emphasized possessing specific emotions while casting them. In fantasy terms, it was a matter of state of mind.
Avada Kedavra required a genuine, intense desire to kill. The Cruciatus Curse required genuine, intense hatred or the desire to torture someone, preferably taking some kind of pleasure from the act. The Patronus Charm, on the other hand, required the happiest and most positive emotion of one's life.
In short, Ryan's magical nature only meant that his recovery ability was stronger, making him better suited for certain obsolete ancient spells with high consumption and great power.
Ryan's father, George William, had a magical nature closer to gunpowder. He could easily manipulate flames and create explosions, much like Seamus, who could make even Leviosa—the Levitation Charm—explode in the original story.
His invention, the Metal Wand, made the greatest possible use of his magical nature, releasing powerful magical bullets.
The Smith Family's inventions were all highly useful, especially the Mithril Wand. It used the blood of every common magical creature, allowing it to adapt to anyone and enhance the power of spells.
However, if Ryan wanted to take that invention from the Smith Family's alchemy room, he had to complete a new invention.
For instance, his father George Smith's invention was only one step away from completion.
After studying his father's and mother's manuscripts, Ryan, blessed with exceptional talent, possessed a broad and solid foundation in alchemy. With his grasp of material properties and transformations, along with the mathematics he had learned in high school in his previous life, he quickly found the error.
There was only one mistake: a mathematical error. One digit had been miscalculated, and the Cooling Potion was short by one ounce.
It was truly a pity. The magical item known as the Alchemy Cabin could ensure a wizard's safety to the greatest extent possible, but if someone failed to complete an invention and have it certified by the cabin before turning twenty-five, they would never be able to enter again after that.
If Voldemort had not appeared, George Smith would not have lacked the energy to work on inventions. Otherwise, even if something had gone wrong inside the Alchemy Cabin, he would have emerged unharmed.
Now, only the materials remained. The final ingredient would probably arrive tomorrow.
The weather was clear, at an ancient castle hidden deep within Nottingham Forest, impossible for ordinary people to mark or notice.
Ryan stood before the window and began his daily exercise.
"One, two, three, four; two, two, three, four. Second set: chest expansion exercises." Ryan silently counted, moving his body to the rhythm.
Race: Wizard Strength: 9 (the limit for ordinary people is 10) Constitution: 25 (the limit for ordinary people is 10) Magic: 15 (the limit for ordinary people is 10) Skills: Thinking lv.2 (39%) Body Modification lv.3 (1%) Alchemy lv.2 (2%)
"My Alchemy has nearly leveled up just from reading all kinds of documents. My father's invention caused a magical accident, but that was only because he was overly confident, and because the wizarding world's mathematics were poor to begin with."
"The Metal Wand—the gun's outer shell—is already complete. Only the final awakening remains, and then all I need to do is wait for Jack. Once the Alchemy Array is activated, I just need to add the Cooling Potion at the crucial moment. And inside the Alchemy Cabin of my ancestor William Smith, my safety will be protected to the greatest extent possible." After finishing his exercise, Ryan drank Black Tea and pondered.
"Jack, are the things ready?"
With a loud, echoing crack, the House-elf Jack appeared before Ryan.
"Here, Master Ryan, the Potions you requested."
Ryan picked up a dried herb. This was Wormwood, the most important component of the Cooling Potion.
Combined with Daffodil Root Powder, it could produce a powerful sleeping draught: a Draught of Living Death.
Inside the Alchemy Cabin, the Alchemy Array slowly activated under Ryan's magic.
A gun that looked as though it had been forged from obsidian appeared. Its shape somewhat resembled an M1911 Pistol, while strange patterns continuously surfaced across its exterior.
Sizzle, sizzle, sizzle. It was time. Ryan poured the Cooling Potion into the Alchemy Array.
Ryan's magic flowed along with the cooling liquid, leaving magnificent patterns upon the Metal Wand.
Hum, hum, hum. The magical runes around the gun continuously absorbed the light. The gun trembled violently as though it had Parkinson's, and gradually, the humming faded along with the completion of the alchemy.
"It's complete!" Ryan was overjoyed.
As the saying went, a divine artifact concealed its own brilliance. The gun gradually returned to its ordinary appearance.
Ryan picked it up, and it felt as though a stream of icy water flowed from his fingers throughout his entire body.
For some reason—perhaps because it had been born from the tempering of Ryan's magic—Ryan felt as though there were two versions of himself. The gun was the person, and the person was the gun.
Aiming at the target that had long been prepared, he injected magic into it. Silver light bullets continuously poured from the muzzle.
"Haha, behold my Infinite-Reload Cero!" Ryan was extremely excited. This was the first time he had created, nearly from nothing, a magical item that could be called great. Moreover, he had been transported here for less than a month.
Still, its power fell short of what his father had expected. After all, his father's magical nature was explosion, whereas Ryan's was more enduring and possessed stronger recovery.
Next, he had to consider whether he still needed to choose the Mithril Wand. With his beloved Black Knight, a wand was honestly not very useful anymore.
Simply injecting magic produced basic light bullets, but what about spells?
Black Knight had been tempered with his own magic and was highly compatible with him. The light bullets or spells fired from Black Knight were also faster than ordinary spells.
"Gutala, Magic Gun!" Ryan chanted a fake incantation as he swiftly drew the gun from his waist, silently reciting in his heart, "Diffindo!" A silver, crescent-shaped blade of light shot from the muzzle.
"So fast! And it looks even better than a spell cast with a wand. As expected of me."
