Yan Yan's words plunged the entire hall into silence.
Only after a long while did the male cultivator speak again. "Forget it. I'm staying out of this!"
After some consideration, the female cultivator clicked her tongue and said, "We can tell them, but they must swear a heart-demon oath. Otherwise, even if they help us accomplish that task, they'll bring endless trouble upon Medicine King Valley."
From Medicine King Valley's perspective, there was nothing wrong with what the female cultivator had said.
Su Jiu, however, was unwilling. She turned her gaze toward Yan Yan. "Is that what you think too?"
Yan Yan pressed his lips together. If possible, he would certainly have liked Su Jiu to swear a heart-demon oath, but her tone told him that was simply impossible.
While Yan Yan was still pondering how to respond, Su Jiu spoke first. "Before inviting us into the valley, did you never consider that the task you wanted me to undertake involved your sect's secrets?"
The male cultivator who had remained silent curled his lip. Of course we considered it. We just never imagined the person who came would be so difficult to deal with.
"Besides, you're the ones asking me for help. Do you think I'd swear some heart-demon oath just because you asked?" You're dreaming a little too beautifully.
Su Jiu left that last thought unspoken. Saying it aloud would have been tantamount to kicking away the steps they had offered themselves to climb down.
Moreover, although Yan Yan had his own calculations, he had clearly made all the necessary preparations long ago. His earlier silence had merely been an attempt to use the female cultivator to probe their stance once more.
And Su Jiu had duly given him a definite answer. A heart-demon oath? Not a chance!
