The first time they had fought a magic beast, several rogue cultivators had acted on their own out of selfishness, causing a whole group to perish in its jaws. Why had some people still failed to learn their lesson and insisted on acting on their own?
Would he, Hu Yucheng, really have stopped them from entering the cave?
If this place were not so dangerous, if killing the magic beasts did not require cooperation, did they really think he had nothing better to do than manage them?
Hu Yucheng instinctively turned around. Those pairs of eyes held indifference, evasion, and confusion. Not a single one offered him a look of trust.
At that moment, he suddenly felt utterly ridiculous. Three of his fellow disciples had died in the jaws of magic beasts because of these people, yet he could see not a trace of gratitude or guilt on their faces.
Now, because he had shown some closeness to the people from the Enforcement Hall, they had torn away even their last veil of pretense.
Hu Yucheng sneered. "Strictly speaking, I'm indeed not your captain. But I thought that, at the very least, we shared the same goal, and that the group had tacitly accepted me as its leader. After all, I've been directing everyone throughout this journey."
"Now it seems you don't need me after all. In that case, let's disband here. May we each fare well on the road ahead."
The male cultivator who had seized the right to speak from Hu Yucheng earlier smiled nonchalantly. "Nothing would please me more."
Seeing the drawn swords and taut bows before them, several weaker junior disciples could not help feeling uneasy.
But far more cultivators looked utterly unconcerned. They felt they could have reached this place safely through their own abilities.
