After roughly two hours, Su Jiu and her two companions finally reached their destination.
Before the three could descend from their flying swords, they smelled an overpowering stench of blood. The entire city was shrouded in a layer of demonic qi.
Su Jiu had never seen such devastation. Corpses littered the land, and blood flowed in rivers. Bodies lay everywhere, some belonging to ordinary people, others to cultivators, with an occasional demonic cultivator among them.
Buildings destroyed by fighting or still burning from arts were everywhere. Ruined walls and shattered masonry filled their view.
Yet there was one place in the city that remained perfectly orderly, as though it had never suffered any harm: the City Lord's Residence.
"Is this city's lord one of those who were won over by the demonic cultivators?"
Da Shen nodded, his expression grave.
Su Jiu looked puzzled. "Since the city lord has already been won over, the demonic cultivators must have complete control of this city. Why keep killing people?"
Any fighting inevitably brought losses, even when the demonic cultivators held an absolute advantage. The corpses throughout the city made it clear that their own casualties were far from few.
Da Shen looked toward the City Lord's Residence, an icy chill in his eyes. "Because the demonic cultivators want to bring their own people into the city. The Dao cultivators living here would inevitably stand in their way..."
