When the group reached the mountaintop, a field of ruins greeted them.
Not only had the formation been broken, but dozens of small houses had also been razed to the ground.
The sight alone offered some idea of what had happened here.
There were also two corpses, gnawed beyond recognition by wraiths.
Both were men.
Su Jiu recognized them by their clothing. They were two of the four people they had previously encountered fleeing from wraiths.
Then Su Jiu went to examine the houses that had been reduced to rubble.
From the traces left behind, she determined that someone had forcibly destroyed the formation on the ground rather than dismantling it through normal means.
This meant that whoever had broken the formation was powerful, at least above the Nascent Soul middle stage.
Su Jiu held her hand over some of the shattered remains of a house, then withdrew it a short while later.
Her expression was cool, her voice indifferent. "Whoever broke the formation probably used wind spiritual qi and possessed a wind spirit root. There's also highly pure fire spiritual qi mixed in here. Judging by their purity, they belonged to a single wind spirit root and a single fire spiritual root, respectively."
At this point, Su Jiu paused involuntarily. Few people met those conditions; at least, she could only think of those two.
"Besides that, there's also a great deal of less pure spiritual qi lingering in the air." Su Jiu thought this portion had probably come from the other four.
Although those four had less concentrated spiritual qi, their cultivation was by no means low.
This information told her that these Dao cultivators had released the wraiths, but it still did not establish exactly what had happened.
Besides, those two were not brainless. By all rights, they
