The black cloak lunged toward him amid frantic ringing, trying to stop Su Bai from approaching the filthy mermaid curled up in the corner. But the cloak had no physical substance, and it recoiled the instant a blue flame appeared in his right palm.
Su Bai could not burn Lorimas's actual body with the flame, so he could only burn through the chains welded to the wall. The section already piercing her tail could not be removed and had to stay where it was. The longer he looked, the more gruesome and painful it seemed.
The instant the blue flame flared, illuminating the dark corner and the filthy, tattered wall covering, much of the stench of rot and blood in the air vanished as well. Little Fire seemed to know that ordinary people could hardly endure such a smell, so despite an aversion to this strange filth, Little Fire swallowed a great deal of it in one gulp.
Thanks to Little Fire's help, Su Bai could force himself to ignore the lingering, nauseating smell in the air. He walked straight over and, with some effort, lifted Lorimas's actual body from the corner.
The power that had overflowed earlier had made Su Bai's body somewhat stronger than an ordinary person's. Besides, the battered mermaid in the corner was so light she seemed not to have eaten in over a decade. Lifting this half-human, half-fish body was not difficult.
The strain came only from having used Little Fire's power again.
