Su Bai had found Yao in a forest. Although he could no longer remember what sort of Nightmare Game it had been, or whether anything special had happened in that forest, he considered his memory fairly ordinary. It was perfectly normal not to remember things from so long ago in his previous life. After all, Yao had been one of the first Ghost Creatures to become a puzzle piece.
Although the black-haired, red-eyed boy was not one of the main fighters among Su Bai's puzzle pieces, he had stayed with Su Bai just as long as A Xi had, and he was far clingier than she was.
Back when Su Bai had only a few puzzle pieces, Yao had always manifested to stay by his side, like a little shadow that never left him.
But as Su Bai acquired more and more Ghost Creatures, Yao had returned to the Vengeful Ghost Puzzle, living quietly under Grandma White's care. Although Yao was the youngest of them all, even younger than the noisy Little Fire, he was unquestionably a very special puzzle piece to Su Bai.
Even now, Yao remained special to Su Bai. Yet when Yao left the puzzle and appeared before him again, Su Bai actually felt a little guilty. Yao was such a special puzzle piece, so why had I forgotten what happened when we first met? Even when Su Bai tried his hardest to recall the forest where he had met Yao, all he could remember were vague, blurry images.
And when Yao had decided to stop manifesting in his previous life, Su Bai had clearly promised to bring him out to play every few days. He could never let the little shadow who had once clung to him all the time feel lonely or abandoned.
