While Su Bai's and Wu Heng's "Family Members" sat there chomping down on greens, the Ghost Creatures at the other tables also began their meals.
Most of the Ghost Creatures whose faces were visible, however, showed a hint of distaste at the sight of the bloodstained raw meat.
Half the face of the "older brother" beside Ai Qing was a bloody mess, the exposed flesh a hideous red, while the other half remained perfectly intact, with even, handsome features that made him all the more inexplicably eerie. The Ghost Creature grabbed a piece of raw meat from the plate. Blood dripped down his fingers, staining the tablecloth. Frowning, he stared hard at the meat with his intact eye, reluctantly took a few bites, then tossed the rest back onto the plate, as though he had completed an unavoidable chore.
The "parents" beside Tan Ying also ate with some reluctance. As the old woman reached out with both hands to grab the meat, her face trembled slightly, as though she were restraining some impulse and forcing herself to put it into her mouth. Meanwhile, the other face on her back kept muttering under its breath, as though cursing something.
Some of the other Ghost Creatures ate their dinner in unusual ways. Wen Wen's "mother," for instance, was a female ghost in a white dress with her hair hanging loose. She merely rested her fingers, which resembled withered twigs, lightly on the raw meat. The meat on the plate rapidly lost its traces of blood, shriveled, and finally turned into grayish-white dried flesh, as though all its vitality had been drained away.
The mass of black mist beside Liang Yuyan simply enveloped the plate of meat. By the time the mist withdrew, the meat had completely rotted.
