Their rough scales were ugly and uneven, like diseased growths covering what should have been human skin, making them especially difficult to look at.

But the fish-men who had eaten Lorimas's flesh and blood possessed astonishing regenerative abilities, allowing almost every wound to heal in an instant. The mutant before him, by contrast, resembled a rag drained of all vitality. His body was covered in bloody marks, his wounds would not heal, and his blood seemed to have run completely dry. He looked as though he was barely clinging to life.
