Chapter Summaries

Lin Yi escaped his pursuers by jumping into the pit and discovered a colossal Red Rune Stone beneath Cool City. Wan Kun followed him down but fell to his death on the rune stone, leaving Lin Yi beside the sealed secret below the city.

• Lin Yi let himself fall into the pit to investigate the secret below, while his would-be killers argued over who had lost the chance to kill him.
• Wan Kun jumped into the pit, and two doctors and other pursuers followed after realizing Lin Yi was still alive.
• Lin Yi used the Anomalous Object Machete and the Duel King's Bandages to descend safely and found a vast space beneath Cool City where fragments of red rune stone floated upward.
• Lin Yi reached the enormous Red Rune Stone and learned it was Anomalous Object No. 555, one of the stones sealing the Desire Mother Tree and counteracting its influence.

Lin Yi discovered that the Desire Mother Tree was an Old God sealed beneath Cool City, and its presence caused his eyes and ears to bleed. When a stele bearing the [Monk] sequence pathway descended and suppressed the tree, Lin Yi used his Aberrant Man-Dragon form to climb toward the surface, killing falling sequence transcendents to extend his body.

Lin Yi escaped the pit after encountering the Old God Desire Mother Tree, but the slaughter-marked survivors outside tried to kill him. Blind Cheng arrived, protected Lin Yi, and took him into the TV Station Building, where a blood-red rose appeared on Lin Yi’s hand.

Searching the TV Station Building for the anomalous object, he found a suited man with the Rule Scroll, who warned that taking it away could doom Cool City's survivors.

• Lin Yi saw the Desire Mother Tree's rose mark on his hand and feared he would be targeted if the old god broke free.
• Lin Yi told Blind Cheng to take his parents to the Survival Rules Convoy and the Northern Settlement, and Blind Cheng agreed to protect them.

Lin Yi joined the Safety First Convoy as it became trapped in thick fog, which he believed was caused by the Desire Mother Tree. Cheng Rong summoned him after realizing he was not a member of the convoy, leaving the others shocked and suspicious.

• The Safety First Convoy found itself surrounded by thick fog after leaving New Prosperity Town, and Li Yujin decided they would wait before trying to leave.
• Lin Yi studied the convoy and learned about its Sequence Transcendents, Cheng Rong, and the anomalous objects she carried.
• Gao Kui brought Lin Yi to Cheng Rong after she asked to speak with him.

Lin Yi told the Safety First Convoy that New Prosperity Town had transported them from Ba-Shu Province to Gansu Province. After Gao Kui grabbed and threatened him, Lin Yi killed him and explained that the town could send people to random locations.

• Cheng Rong discovered Lin Yi among the convoy and questioned him about who he was.
• Lin Yi claimed to be a Cool City local, and Li Yujin and the others realized the convoy had arrived in Gansu Province.
• Li Yujin checked Lin Yi's ID and asked him what he knew about New Prosperity Town.

Lin Yi joined Li Yujin’s convoy after killing Gao Kui and took over Gao Kui’s Audi. When Li Yujin discovered that powerful Aberrations surrounded the convoy, she sought Cheng Rong’s help, while Cheng Rong began considering how to win Lin Yi’s favor.

The chapter ended as a rotting old man emerged from the village, dragging a corpse with the Three-Headed Cat behind him.

• Lin Yi refused Li Yujin’s rebuke, explaining that the family had provoked him, and the Convoy members became afraid to approach him.

Lin Yi and Blind Cheng reunited with their allies and used an anomalous object to clear the fog, rescuing the Safety First Convoy. Their escape was interrupted by a level four Three-Headed Cat and the arrival of a level five aberration, so Lin Yi ordered everyone to flee.

• Lin Yi felt relieved that his parents had not come, then joined Blind Cheng in cutting through the Mist Slaves as the Anti-Fog Porcelain Plate Maker pushed back the fog.
• Blind Cheng, Bai Le, and Zhang Xu reunited with Lin Yi, while Li Yujin thanked the rescuers and saw that the Safety First Convoy had suffered heavy losses.

• After an eyeball attack flipped a car and caused eyes to appear across it, Lin Yi rescued Blind Cheng and the convoy drove into the fog.
• The rotting old man and the three-headed cat followed the convoy after it escaped their attack.

As the convoy fled, the Rotting Old Man appeared inside Lin Yi and Blind Cheng’s car with the Three-Headed Cat. He explained how he had become an Aberration, then revealed that he sensed Lin Yi was a being too powerful for him to eat.

• Li Yujin urged Zhang Xu to take the right road, but he drove left and the convoy followed.
• The Rotting Old Man and the Three-Headed Cat repeatedly attacked the convoy, destroying or assimilating cars as they pursued it through the fog.
• The Rotting Old Man appeared on a car behind Lin Yi’s Audi, then suddenly vanished and reappeared in its back seat with the shrunken Three-Headed Cat.
• The Rotting Old Man told Lin Yi and Blind Cheng that he had become an Aberration after eating a human-faced fruit in Huamei County and had eventually become its last survivor.
• Lin Yi challenged the Rotting Old Man’s claim that he had stopped attacking because he was full, and the old man admitted he still wanted to eat but sensed Lin Yi was a far more powerful being.

Lin Yi and Blind Cheng learned that the Rotting Old Man would not attack because Lin Yi carried the Desire Mother Tree’s mark and they had entered another level five Aberration’s territory. The Rotting Old Man asked to travel with them to Ning Province, and Lin Yi let him join the convoy rather than risk the people he cared about.

• The Rotting Old Man explained that attacking Lin Yi could draw the attention of the Desire Mother Tree, and Blind Cheng joked that he wished he could get the same protection.
• Lin Yi realized the Rotting Old Man had another reason not to attack and learned that they had entered the territory of a level five Aberrant Man-Dragon.
• The Rotting Old Man warned that the Aberrant Man-Dragon controlled the route toward Ning Province and said it had reached level five after being repeatedly killed.
• The Rotting Old Man offered to guide the convoy to Ning Province, where he hoped to find more people and grow stronger.
• Lin Yi considered attacking the Rotting Old Man but let him come along because the convoy’s people would be endangered if he forced a fight.

The Safety First Convoy entered Ning Province and found a desolate landscape corroded by what appeared to be acid rain. After taking shelter from the rain in an underground parking garage, the convoy encountered a schoolgirl hanging from a pipe.

• Zhang Xu, Li Yujin, Bai Le, and the others saw withered land, corroded signs, and skeletons riddled with holes as the convoy entered Ning Province.
• Bai Le suspected acid rain had devastated the province, and Zhang Xu accelerated to find shelter before the rain reached them.
• Lin Yi discovered that the Rotting Old Man had disappeared from the Audi and told Blind Cheng that Ning Province looked worse than Shaanxi Province.
• The convoy reached a silent county town as green acid rain began corroding the vehicles.
• Zhang Xu led the convoy into an underground parking garage, where the group saw a schoolgirl hanging by her neck from a pipe.

A smiling hanging girl seized Li Yujin, who then ran into a stairwell and jumped to her death. Blind Cheng concluded that an unknown presence in the apartment buildings had influenced her, leaving the convoy without its leader as acid rain poured outside.

• Li Yujin rushed toward a hanging schoolgirl, who grabbed her arms and left her with grayish-white eyes and the same unnatural smile.
• Li Yujin ran laughing into the stairwell, and Lin Yi learned from the convoy that she had been their leader and could sense Aberrations.
• Blind Cheng said that a married couple in the [Watcher] Sequence was among the people from Cool City, and he went to find them.
• Lin Yi questioned Zhang Xu about the incident, while a woman in the back seat defended Li Yujin's attempt to save the schoolgirl.
• Blind Cheng hurried to the garage entrance and warned that people were in the apartment buildings before Li Yujin fell from above and struck the ground.

After Li Yujin died, Lin Yi suspected an unknown Sequence Transcendent was making people kill themselves and ordered the survivors to wait out the acid rain. Above them, Zhang Fan of the White Lotus Cult targeted the convoy to advance his [Liar] Sequence, but Sun Wei was discovered while scouting it.

• Lin Yi learned from Wang Qiang that no aberrations were within five kilometers and concluded that someone had caused Li Yujin's death.
• Lin Yi told the survivors to avoid contact with locals and leave when the acid rain stopped.
• Zhang Fan revealed that he needed to trick more people into thoughts of death to advance his [Liar] Sequence, and Sun Wei went to inspect the new convoy.
• Sun Wei discovered that most of the nearly hundred people in the underground garage were Sequence Transcendents.
