Background / History
Ah Yin’s Sacrifice
Tang Hao and his elder brother, Tang Xiao, met Ah Yin after she left the Star Dou Great Forest while nearing maturity. They invited her to travel with them, and she developed feelings for Tang Hao. His ambition was to become the first Titled Douluo in the Clear Sky Sect’s history with a Hundred Thousand Year Soul Ring, surpassing its earlier prodigies 49.
Liu Hao later exposes how Tang Hao deliberately took Ah Yin into places where Spirit Hall could discover her, prevented her from returning to the forest for shelter, and married and impregnated her despite pregnancy exposing her soul-beast aura. Ah Yin confirms that she knew he was using her for her soul ring. She accepted the eventual sacrifice because she loved him and believed her powerful life force would allow her to return 43 48 49.
The resulting conflict brought Spirit Hall’s attention onto the Clear Sky Sect, forcing it to seal its mountain and withdraw from the world. Tang Hao’s regret is explicitly tied to the damage his scheme caused the sect rather than to the scheme against Ah Yin itself 49.
Life in Hiding
Tang Hao lived with Tang San in Holy Soul Village, working as a blacksmith. His whereabouts remained undiscovered by Spirit Hall for six years 1 43.
He planted Ah Yin’s surviving Blue Silver Grass form in a cavern behind a waterfall near the village. The cave admitted only limited sunlight, restricting her recovery. Tang Hao maintained that he had chosen it to protect her fragile form from other creatures and conceal her from Spirit Hall 46 48.
Confrontation at Shrek Academy
Tang Hao secretly watched Tang San’s arrival at Shrek Academy from the nearby woods. Initially dismissing Liu Hao’s claim to be a twelve-year-old rank 99 cultivator, he became alarmed when Liu Hao immobilized Zhao Wuji through soul-power pressure alone. He also planned to punish Zhao Wuji for beating Tang San during the assessment 42.
Liu Hao exposed Tang Hao’s identity to Xiao Wu and prevented him from fleeing by threatening Tang San’s life. Tang Hao attacked with Clear Sky True Body and Divine Slaughter’s Domain, but Liu Hao casually knocked his hammer aside. The confrontation then shifted to Liu Hao’s accusations concerning Ah Yin, which Tang San overheard 42 43.
Tang Hao tried to preserve his son’s trust by saying Ah Yin could be resurrected. When Liu Hao revealed Tang San’s previous-life secrets, Tang Hao briefly questioned his son’s identity, then reaffirmed their blood relationship. Father and son united against Liu Hao despite Tang San’s unresolved doubts 44.
Resurrection and Separation
Liu Hao transported Tang Hao, Tang San, and Xiao Wu through the void to Ah Yin’s cave. Tang Hao restrained Tang San when his jealousy toward Liu Hao threatened to provoke a confrontation. He subsequently agreed to surrender his ninth soul ring for Ah Yin’s resurrection under pressure from Liu Hao and his son 45 46 47.
The resurrection succeeded, but cost Tang Hao five ranks. Ah Yin immediately recognized him and moved to embrace him; Liu Hao stopped them and exposed Tang Hao’s scheme again. Her admission that she had known and accepted it shocked Tang Hao and the others 48 49.
Liu Hao ultimately ordered Tang Hao and Tang San to leave while keeping Ah Yin with him. Tang Hao departed with his son. Their lives then became leverage through which Liu Hao compelled Ah Yin’s obedience 50 51.
Appearance
- Build: Burly 42.
- Clothing: A tattered gray robe while watching Shrek Academy 42.
- Condition: Weathered and dispirited after years of evading Spirit Hall and feeling guilty over the Clear Sky Sect’s troubles; no longer possesses the spirited confidence of his youth 48.
Personality
Tang Hao is fiercely protective of Tang San, whom he regards as both his own hope and the Clear Sky Sect’s future pride. He nearly intervenes during Zhao Wuji’s assessment and remains in place when Liu Hao threatens his son. Despite discovering Tang San’s unexplained previous-life knowledge, he ultimately prioritizes their bond as father and son 42 44.
His attachment to Ah Yin coexists with his ambition and self-interest. He tearfully insists that he loved her, but the narration characterizes his feelings as predominantly physical desire and shows him prioritizing survival when Liu Hao becomes threatening. His strongest stated regret concerns the consequences for his sect 43 49.
Tang Hao is cautious when outmatched. He abandons his initial aggression after Liu Hao repels his hammer, obeys a threat to leave him stranded in the void, and restrains Tang San from provoking a vastly stronger opponent 43 45 46.
