"An interesting lad." Mu En watched Lin Xuanchen's retreating figure and murmured, "It seems Shrek has someone to carry on its legacy."
After leaving Shrek Academy, Lin Xuanchen headed toward the Treasure Gathering Pavilion, following the route he remembered. He vaguely recalled that it was near Shrek City's North City Gate.
Although Shrek Academy lay within Shrek City's boundaries, its entrance did not connect to the city proper. To reach the Treasure Gathering Pavilion, he had to enter through either the South Gate or the North City Gate, which meant taking quite a long detour.
The route was a little longer, but that was hardly a problem. He had the high-level Earth-tier Dou Technique, Three Thousand Lightning Movement. This distance was nothing to him.
The next instant, with a slight stir of his thoughts and a shift of his feet, Lin Xuanchen abruptly turned into a streak of blue lightning and shot toward Shrek's North City Gate.
Before long, Lin Xuanchen arrived at Shrek's North City Gate. After asking around, he successfully located the Treasure Gathering Pavilion.
The Treasure Gathering Pavilion was a large shop, seemingly four stories tall and over twenty meters high. Its exterior glittered with gold and splendor, making it look like an enormous treasure basin.
"Damn, that's luxurious. Why does it look a little like a nightclub from my previous life?" Lin Xuanchen could not help exclaiming as he looked at the Treasure Gathering Pavilion before him. Then he headed inside.
Before Lin Xuanchen could enter the Treasure Gathering Pavilion, a scantily dressed young woman approached him.
"What can I help you find, sir?" The young woman stopped before Lin Xuanchen and leaned forward slightly, revealing a stretch of snowy-white skin at her chest as she asked with a smile.
"You have ten-thousand-year medicinal herbs here, right?" Lin Xuanchen asked.
"Yes, sir, we do." The young woman nodded. "Those ten-thousand-year medicinal herbs are all on the second floor of our Treasure Gathering Pavilion."
"All right. Lead the way," Lin Xuanchen said casually.
"Certainly." The young woman nodded, then turned and led Lin Xuanchen toward the Treasure Gathering Pavilion's second floor.
About five minutes later, the young woman brought Lin Xuanchen to the second floor.
"Sir, some of the more precious ten-thousand-year medicinal herbs on our second floor include autumn jade cold marrow ganoderma, willowwood tranquil heart lotus..." The young woman led Lin Xuanchen into the sales area, introducing the merchandise as they walked.
Suddenly, Lin Xuanchen noticed something placed at the very bottom of a display counter. It was pitch-black, dull, and utterly inconspicuous.
"What's this?" Lin Xuanchen already had a few guesses. He turned to the young woman beside him and asked.
"Sir, this is a piece of thousand-year whale rubber. However, it has undergone some weathering, so its effects have diminished. Our Treasure Gathering Pavilion was planning to move it to the first floor soon, with a corresponding adjustment to its price," the young woman explained.
"Wrap it up." Lin Xuanchen glanced at the piece of whale rubber again and spoke without hesitation.
"Huh?" The young woman froze briefly before recovering and smiling. "Of course, sir. I'll wrap it up for you right away."
Afterward, Lin Xuanchen selected several more ten-thousand-year medicinal herbs in the Treasure Gathering Pavilion, paid by card, and left.
As for where his money came from? Selling pills, of course! He had Xiao Yan's talent for alchemy. If he still could not make money with that, he might as well find a block of tofu and bash himself to death against it.
Still, this trip had yielded a pleasant surprise. He had actually come across that piece of ten-thousand-year whale glue from the original story.
Although it was not particularly useful to him, he could use it to refine pills and give them to that girl Wang Dong'er as compensation.
After purchasing the medicinal herbs, Lin Xuanchen found a secluded spot and refined the ten-thousand-year herbs he had bought, along with the piece of ten-thousand-year whale glue, into various pills. Then he returned to Shrek Academy.
It was already late when Lin Xuanchen returned to Shrek Academy, and the sky had nearly gone dark. When he reached the dorm room, he discovered that it had actually been cleaned-and quite thoroughly, too. It was spotless.
Wang Dong'er was lying on her bed, wrapped tightly in her blanket with only her head showing.
"Wang Dong'er." Lin Xuanchen walked up behind her and poked her little bottom with a finger. "This is for you. Consider it compensation."
"I don't want it." Wang Dong'er curled farther inward, her muffled voice emerging from beneath the blanket.
"Then I'll leave it on the table. This pill can improve your physique. It wouldn't even be surprising if it let you absorb a Ten Thousand Year Soul Ring as your third Soul Ring. Take it yourself whenever you've thought things through." Lin Xuanchen had no desire to press his warm face against a cold backside. After placing the pill on the table, he tidied his own bed and lay down to rest.
The night passed without further words...
Early the next morning.
Lin Xuanchen got up early. He glanced at Wang Dong'er and found that she was still asleep, so he headed to Shrek's cafeteria to buy breakfast.
Each year had its own cafeteria, located behind the dormitory area. By the time Lin Xuanchen entered the first-year cafeteria, a dozen or so people were already there, though it was not particularly crowded.
Yet the cafeteria felt remarkably empty. There was not a single table or chair, and a sign at the entrance even read: No food may be taken out of the cafeteria.
Fuck that. Who the hell cares what you say? My rules are the only rules that count. Lin Xuanchen cursed inwardly. After buying two breakfasts, he put them straight into his Storage Ring and walked out of the cafeteria, ignoring the other students' shocked stares.
"Wang Dong'er." Lin Xuanchen sat beside her bed and placed breakfast by her pillow. "We have class today. Are you going?"
"Who asked you to care? Stop putting on an act." Wang Dong'er turned her head toward Lin Xuanchen and snapped fiercely.
"Then I won't bother you. Stay here by yourself." Lin Xuanchen raised his eyebrows, then stood and headed out of the dorm room.
The white doors of the teaching building stood open, and the new students filed inside in their white uniforms. Although Lin Xuanchen appeared to be wearing a uniform too, he had actually simulated it.
He had thrown his uniform away the moment he received it. The reason he could simulate one was his first Soul Skill, Blue Silver Simulation!
His first Soul Skill came from a mutated thousand-year illusion soul flower. When he absorbed its Soul Ring, they had approached it with a give-it-a-try attitude, since he had no idea what Soul Skill it would grant him.
At the time, he had only been in the Douluo Continent for a little over a year after transmigrating and knew nothing. Fortunately, this Soul Beast had given him a simulation-type Soul Skill.
This Soul Skill had much in common with Huo Yuhao's second Soul Skill, Simulation, from the original story. Both worked by distorting the surrounding spiritual field.
