He knew exactly how bad his injury was. His powerful muscles and bones had absorbed most of the bullet's kinetic energy, leaving it lodged in his shoulder blade. It looked frightening, but it hadn't hit anything vital.
Enduring the searing pain, he reached out with his uninjured right hand and gently pushed away Chen Qianqian, who was sobbing her heart out in his arms. Then he held back Song Qiuya and Zhang Ruoxi as they tried to rush over to examine his wound.
"I'm fine."
His voice was soft, yet carried a strange, steadying force that made all three girls, who were on the verge of breaking down, pause.
"You've been shot, and you're still saying you're fine! Who are you trying to fool?" Chen Qianqian cried angrily, her tears flowing even harder.
Chen Lin ignored her protest. His gaze swept over the three girls' pale, terrified faces, his expression turning more serious than ever.
"Listen. Anything you saw tonight that didn't make sense-you need to forget all of it."
He spoke each word distinctly, making sure every one of them heard him clearly.
"I just fought some criminals and got hurt. Understood?"
Song Qiuya was the first to react. Biting her lower lip hard, she nodded firmly.
Chen Qianqian was still sobbing, her mind a little dazed, but at the sight of Chen Lin's uncompromising expression, she instinctively nodded too.
Only Zhang Ruoxi remained overwhelmed by terror. Her body trembled like a fallen leaf in the
