Arc 1Southward to Singapore

Wang Sanhe followed an old Taoist’s cryptic advice south to Singapore, where he faced financial and educational setbacks but began applying his master’s teachings. The arc left him building a new life through study, qigong, and feng shui while preparing to practice the Sword-Finger Art with Mr. Cai.

  • Sanhe met an old Taoist who identified details of his life and told him that south was up and north was down, inspiring Sanhe to seek a path to success.
  • After He Xiang explained the phrase’s traditional meanings, Sanhe accepted Uncle Feng’s offer to study in Singapore and traveled there, where the old Taoist took him as a disciple and taught him divination and principles of cultivation.
  • The old Taoist warned Sanhe to use divination without letting it control his choices, gave him books, and opened his Heavenly Eye before disappearing at the airport.
  • In Singapore, Sanhe discovered that Uncle Feng had taken his money, his school and program differed from what he expected, and his student status barred him from legal part-time work, so he abandoned his attempt to recover the tuition.
  • Sanhe moved to a cheaper room in Paya Lebar, began accounting studies, and befriended Bai Zhigao and Naja while struggling with English and living costs.
  • Sanhe used a remedy from his master’s book to help Brother Wei recover from severe diarrhea and accepted only 100 Singapore dollars from the grateful man.
  • Sanhe examined Mr. Cai’s feng shui, identified reflective surfaces as sources of light sha, accepted only $100 for his advice, and arranged to practice the Sword-Finger Art with him the following Friday.

Arc 2New Paths in Singapore

Sanhe helps Li Guang find work and explores plans to start a company, while his qi practice and knack for helping others draw him into several personal crises. The stretch ends with Gula recovering enough to ask Sanhe to teach her his full cultivation art.

  • Sanhe learned that Singapore’s multilingual environment made communication difficult and warned Li Guang that office work required English, but Li Guang said he only wanted to make money.
  • After becoming dizzy during Master Wu’s qi exercises, Sanhe learned that pent-up emotions might be affecting him, then saw a chance to help Li Guang find work at Mr. Cai’s construction site.
  • Sanhe researched setting up a company and recruited Li Xuan and Du Le to consider joining him, but a temple divination warned that their ambitious plan would receive no help from Heaven.
  • Sanhe introduced Li Guang to Mr. Cai, who arranged his work permit and thanked Sanhe, while Sanhe decided to seek a job himself before starting a company later.
  • Sanhe taught Naja to swim, but rejected Naja’s romantic feelings, and their friendship ended.
  • Sanhe helped Gula confront her fear of going outside by taking her for walks and teaching her to focus on her surroundings, and she gradually became more engaged with the world.
  • Gula began chatting with flowers and greeting trees, then asked Sanhe to teach her the complete Mind-Cleansing Spirit-Nourishing Art and offered to become his disciple or marry him, so he told her they were different species.
