In an instant, Lynn saw overwhelming despair well up in their eyes.
"Oh no!!"
Amid their piercing screams, darkness swallowed them whole. An immense sense of being watched descended upon them, and the erosion marks on their bodies changed violently, invading their flesh in an instant. Their bodies began to twist, steadily transforming into the shapes of sea spawn.
And when the cleric lit the Soul Lamp in his hand once more...
The companions around him had already been fully corrupted into monsters of the Deep Sea.
He knelt there, holding the faintly glowing Soul Lamp, his face filled with terror. Countless tentacles and sea spawn surrounded him, waiting for the Soul Lamp in his hand to go out.
He kept adding his own blood to the Soul Lamp.
But at last, the flame weakened again.
The next moment...
The lamp went out once more.
The images from Remnants of the Past faded with that final extinguishing.
Blood Cloak's face paled slightly. "So that's what happened here before... That Soul Lamp in his hand... It seems capable of dispelling the surrounding anomalies to some extent... When did this happen?"
Lynn adjusted his Monocle and said solemnly, "One day ago."
In other words...
At least as recently as a day ago, many clerics had still been alive here.
And they had mentioned Messiah in their conversation, meaning they had been trying to get word of what was happening here out to her, but every attempt had failed.
The erosion marks had already spread here by then, too.
They had not yet encountered the sea spawn shown in those images, but without a doubt, those creatures would attack once they spotted you. And the moment you fought back, you would trigger the Gaze of Cthulhu, sending everything around you into upheaval...
