Lynn held the blood-red torch high, leading the group step by step toward the heart of the seal.
It was like walking through the depths of the sea, with only that torch to light their way.
It was hard to describe the Black Tide as a substance. It looked more like some kind of chaotic energy. Beneath the torchlight, it slowly receded like darkness being driven away, but as soon as the light vanished, it rushed back in.
Lynn said gravely:
"Lady Blood Cloak, possess me. I don't know when this torch will go out. Death omen rank probably won't be much use here anymore. If it really does go out, perhaps a Monarch's power will barely be enough to keep us going."
Lady Blood Cloak nodded solemnly, watching their surroundings warily. The oppressive darkness seemed ready to rush in and devour them at any moment.
