He almost instinctively took a step back, even tripping over a step and falling straight to the floor.

"What do you mean?!"
The Clown abruptly raised his head, quickly snapping out of his immense shock, his eyes filled with furious indignation.
"Your Highness the King's Knight, I hope you know what you're saying. Are you telling us that the darkness outside-the Calamity that has hunted us and the Female Host for thousands of years-is the Great Lord we've longed for all this time?!"
His voice suddenly rose as he reached that last sentence, his emotions tipping into hysteria.
"I know you hold immense power and authority! But the words you've spoken today alone are enough to brand you a heretic! What you've said is the greatest blasphemy against the loyalty we've upheld for countless years!"
