The Sin Lord paused, then snorted, flapped her wings, and turned away, flying imperiously toward her library.
She ignored him.
Lynn hurried after her.
"Don't act like a child. I'm serious. Whether that future happens or not, we should be trying to avoid it, not walking straight into it."
Lynn spoke quietly.
The Sin Lord glanced at him and closed her eyes.
"Act like a child?? Are you joking? Seriously? When I was your age, your ancestors were still nursing."
Lynn reached out from behind and grabbed her arm.
He said gravely:
"Do you really want me to collect your corpse?!"
Silence spread through the dark corridor.
The Sin Lord stopped. Her long hair hid her eyes, and her slender hands clenched as she stood there in silence.
A long time passed.
"You just told me that all of it might be fake... but the truth is, you believe it'll come true more than anyone else does, don't you?"
Lynn was speechless.
The Sin Lord shook her hair hard, then turned her head. For some reason, her eyes looked a little red-or perhaps they had always been red.
"Thank you, Lynn."
"But I don't want to be like I used to be anymore..."
"Because back in the North Sea, I got scared. I became a cowardly deserter. At the most critical moment, I lost to my own fear and weakness."
"You should have punished me, really. You should have made me answer for it afterward. You could have hit me, yelled at me, or activated the curse and made me wish I were dead, just like Lord Clown used to. Maybe then I could have made excuses for myself. I could have told myself I'd already gotten what I deserved... so it was all right to be a coward..."
