The five mechanical spiders surrounded the two humanoid units in a pentagram formation, constantly scanning their surroundings. Lynn could even clearly see the circular screens on their heads, where streams of green light flickered continuously.

As those cold mechanical voices rang out.

One of the mechanical spiders abruptly turned its head 180 degrees toward the spot where Lynn and White Night were hiding. The light on its head screen immediately switched from green to flashing red.
Lynn's heart tightened.
But White Night immediately pressed down on his wrist, his eyes flickering as he shook his head slightly.
And almost in the very next moment.
Whoosh-
A searing beam suddenly blasted from the mechanical spider's gun barrel, skimmed over their heads, and shot into the sky.
A shrill, drawn-out cry rang out.
A deformed bird fell from high above the black fog, its entire body ablaze, then slammed into the ground behind Lynn and White Night.
"Vital signs zero-extermination directive deactivated-"
As that synthesized mechanical voice sounded, the mechanical spider's red light turned green again. Its gun barrel transformed and retracted into its mechanical body.
Lynn: "..."
White Night: "..."

Lynn took a bite of the roasted bird leg in his hand and passed the other one to White Night beside him. Chewing with a frown, he said:
"Seeing really is believing. They wouldn't even spare a carefree little bird just passing by. Their hostility toward Flesh Creatures really lives up to its reputation. It's absolutely brutal."
