Ren Feng shook his head with a soft chuckle.
"This should be the sixty-fourth time."
"You forgot. You came once in the year the fleet first set out, too."
The old man paused, then smiled and nodded.
But the smile on his face looked terribly weak.
Ren Feng noticed something was wrong, too.
Compared with when they had first left home, the color was draining from the old man's face, and the light in his eyes was slowly fading.
His heart clenched. He hurriedly pulled up the playback menu and pressed play.
Click.
The sound of the door closing reached them.
The lights went out.
The vast room was pitch-black, with only the faint scent of soil and grass lingering in the air.
Suddenly.
Light flared from every side of the room!
With dozens of holographic projectors working together, an enormous blue planet appeared before them.
After the briefest pause, the blue planet rapidly expanded.
Within a few seconds, the scene before them had changed completely.
Blue skies, white clouds.
A small village.
It was not large, with only a few dozen households.
Dense wooded hills surrounded it.
Directly ahead, where the two of them stood, was a flat stretch of grass.
The real grass inside the room raised the image's simulation fidelity to another level.
Even though he had watched the same footage countless times, even though he knew perfectly well that the scene was an illusion, the sight of cooking smoke curling above the village still left Ren Feng briefly dazed.
"This is where I used to live..."
The old man's trembling voice came from beside him. "I remember. The first house on the left belonged to Old Zhang."
"The one next door belonged to Old Qi."
"..."
Ren Feng nodded along with the old man's words.
