When they woke that morning, the three of them were nestled together.

Genya slept in the middle, with Konan on his left and Kurenai on his right.

A few strands of Konan's long blue hair lay across his chest.

Kurenai's face was buried in the crook of his shoulder, her shallow breaths still carrying a trace of last night's alcohol.

The bedding was a tangled mess.

Genya opened his eyes, looked left, then right, and stayed still.

Don't move yet. Figure out what happened last night, then decide what to do next.

Konan woke first.

She opened her eyes, her gaze settling on Genya's chin.

She blinked twice, then slowly lifted her head and looked across Genya's chest at Kurenai, who was still fast asleep on the other side.

Her expression didn't change. There was no surprise, and after a brief silence, she simply rested her head on Genya's shoulder again.

Kurenai opened her eyes too, meeting Konan's gaze.

The two held each other's gaze across Genya's chest for a moment. Neither made a fuss or panicked.

They both understood that they would be sisters from now on. There was nothing left to confirm.

Kurenai reached up to tuck her loose hair behind her ear, her voice still husky with sleep.

"What time is it?"

Konan glanced out the window. "Still early."

Kurenai murmured in acknowledgment, showing no intention of getting up.

Neither did Konan.

Sandwiched between them, Genya closed his eyes and pretended to sleep, but his heartbeat betrayed him.

Kurenai traced circles on his chest with a finger.

"Stop pretending if you're awake."

Genya sighed and opened his eyes.

"Aren't you two sleepy? Get some more rest."

Kurenai glanced at Konan. "I'm not."

Konan glanced back at Kurenai. "Neither am I."

Genya closed his eyes again.

"I am."
