The Ye Family.

Ye Yinglan held her swollen, reddened cheek, her eyes rimmed with red.

"Ye Fan hit you?" Ye Dinghong asked.

Ye Yinglan nodded and gave a pitiful "Yes."

Wang Xiaofei's heart clenched at the sight of Ye Yinglan.

"Father, that brat is getting more and more out of hand. First he caused that huge scandal fooling around with women, and now he's even hitting his own sister!" Ye Hongwen said furiously.

Ye Dinghong took a drag on his cigarette and looked at Ye Yinglan. "Why did Ye Fan hit you? There must have been a reason."

"I ran into him at the pharmacy. He spent three million on a red ginseng root. I just asked him where he got the money, and he hit me," Ye Yinglan said, full of grievance.

Ye Hongwen was puzzled. "Three million? Where did he get that kind of money?" Ye Fan had left the family without a penny.

"Enough. It's only three million. I hear the Wu Family often helps him out. He's still a member of our Ye Family, after all. It's perfectly normal for him to have a few million on hand." Ye Dinghong gave Ye Yinglan a displeased look. "Ye Fan may have left home, but he's still your older brother. Try to be friendlier when you see him."

Ye Dinghong thought little of Wang Xiaofei. The marriage alliance between the Ye Family and the Wu Family had originally been an excellent match, but Ye Hongwen had insisted on loving Wang Xiaofei. Wu Ying, meanwhile, had been ill-fated and died young.

Over the years, relations between the Ye Family and the Wu Family had cooled considerably. Though the Wu Family rarely involved themselves in Ye Fan's affairs, they still looked after him to some extent.

Ye Yinglan had been counting on the old man to stand up for her, but his reaction made it clear that she could forget about that. She could not help resenting Ye Fan even more.

Ye Fan carefully cut open the blood ginseng, extracted its liquid, and divided it into ten small portions.

Ye Fan sat cross-legged on the bed, absorbing the spiritual energy within the blood ginseng.

Waves of spiritual energy flowed into his body, and Ye Fan could not help growing excited. The spiritual energy he gained from absorbing a single portion of blood ginseng was equivalent to four or five days of his usual cultivation.

Just as Ye Fan was getting engrossed in his cultivation, a knock sounded at the door, forcing him to stop.

Ye Fan opened the door and frowned impatiently at his visitor. "What are you doing here?"

"What kind of attitude is that?"

"If you have something to say, say it. Otherwise, get lost!" Ye Fan said impatiently.

Ye Hongwen nearly spat blood at that retort. "Why did you hit your sister? Who gave you the right to hit her? You're getting more and more insolent!"

"She was blocking my way and accusing me of stealing money. Of course I slapped her. That's what she gets for being a bitch! You think I wanted to hit her? It hurt my hand." Ye Fan rubbed his chin.

Ye Hongwen stared at Ye Fan. "You... where did you get that three million?"

Ye Fan narrowed his eyes. "It's not your money. Why are you asking so many questions? You use my mother's inheritance to support your mistress and those two bastards, and now you're suddenly concerned about me?"

"How dare you talk to me like that? I'm your father!" Ye Hongwen snapped, beside himself with anger.

"I know. I remember you saying you had no shameless son like me. That works out nicely, since I don't want a father like you either." Ye Fan yawned and sat on the sofa with his legs crossed, speaking indifferently.

"You... you're utterly unreasonable." Ye Hongwen had come to lecture Ye Fan, only to get an earful himself. Seething with displeasure, he asked, "How did you turn out like this?"

"How did I turn out like this? That bastard of yours forced me into it. After ruining my reputation, he can finally get together with that bitch Liao Tingting. A pair of adulterous scum," Ye Fan cursed coldly.

Ye Fan had lived with Ye Hongwen for over a decade, after all, so Ye Hongwen knew him fairly well. He vaguely suspected that Ye Fan lacked the nerve to abuse anyone, but with things having come to this, he had done nothing to clear Ye Fan's name.

The only person who stood to benefit from that incident was Ye Zhize. Compared with Ye Fan, Ye Hongwen still preferred Ye Zhize as a son.
