Ye Fan visited seven pharmacies, bought more than a dozen Chinese medicinal herbs, and spent two hundred thousand yuan. In no time, he had blown through nearly half his savings. Watching his wealth shrink so rapidly made his heart ache.

Ye Fan soaked comfortably in the bathtub, a smile curling at the corners of his mouth.

Although he had spent over two hundred thousand yuan, he was still pleased to feel the spiritual energy building within his body.

In his previous life, he had been hailed as the Cultivation Know-It-All. Whenever the sect's disciples ran into problems with cultivation, they would come to him for advice. But Ye Fan knew that many of them secretly looked down on him. Immortals and mortals were worlds apart. No matter how clever he was, he would only live a hundred years or so, while a Nascent Soul cultivator could live for two thousand.

Though Ye Fan had acted indifferent in his previous life, how could he truly have been content when he watched the sect's disciples soar through the skies on their swords?

After absorbing the last of the medicinal effects, Ye Fan stepped out of the bathtub.

Ye Fan stretched his arms and legs, considering how he could make some money. During his visits to the pharmacies, he had spotted plenty of useful medicinal herbs. But a single seventy- or eighty-year-old ginseng root cost over a million yuan. His pockets were too shallow to afford that.

After enjoying a leisurely lie-in, Ye Fan headed to Antique Street.

Antique Street bustled with people. Seeing fake goods everywhere, Ye Fan could not help feeling disappointed.

"Pengfei, this jade Buddha looks nice!"

"You have an excellent eye, miss! This jade Buddha was consecrated by an abbot in Qingyuan City. He's already eighty years old-a truly enlightened master! As the saying goes, jade nourishes its wearer. Buy this piece, miss, and it will protect you. You certainly won't be disappointed."

"How much is it?"

"Thirty thousand!"

The beautiful woman turned to the man beside her, her eyes full of anticipation. "Pengfei, what do you think?"

Ye Pengfei looked at her and swallowed his distress over the cost. Eager to please, he said, "If you like it, let's buy it."

Ye Fan was just about to leave when the man spoke. "Well, if it isn't Young Master Fan! I heard the Ye Family kicked you out. Where are you living now? Don't tell me you're sleeping on the streets!"

"You are...?"

"Young Master Fan, you're such an important man that you've forgotten all about me." The young man's face darkened with displeasure.

Ye Fan studied him for a few moments and soon recognized him. The man was a distant relative of the Ye Family who spent all his time hanging around Ye Zhize, Ye Fan's younger half-brother by his stepmother. Ye Hongwen doted on Ye Zhize far more than he did on Ye Fan. Ye Fan had so little standing in the Ye Family that even Ye Zhize's lackeys looked down on him.

"I remember you. You borrowed money from me. Can you pay me back now?" Ye Fan asked.

Ye Pengfei's face flushed red. "Who borrowed money from you? You're crazy!"

Ye Fan seized Ye Pengfei's arm and discreetly pressed several of his acupoints. Ye Pengfei immediately found himself unable to move.

"Two months ago, at the Starry Sky Café in Xingdong District, South City, you borrowed two hundred thousand yuan from me. Remember now?" Ye Fan applied more pressure to several of Ye Pengfei's acupoints, making him feel as though steel needles were stabbing into him.

"I remember. It's only two hundred thousand yuan, isn't it? I'll pay you back." Ye Pengfei gave a strained laugh.

Ye Pengfei transferred two hundred thousand yuan to Ye Fan's account. Looking at his increased balance, Ye Fan smiled. "What luck! I stepped outside and ran into someone who owed me money. Just when I needed it, help came knocking."

Ye Pengfei was so furious at those words that his insides ached.

"I won't keep you. I'm off." Ye Fan waved at Ye Pengfei and left.

The woman beside Ye Pengfei looked puzzled. "Young Master Pengfei, why did you give him money?"

"He's pretty pitiful. He used to be a rich young master, and now he's penniless. Consider it charity." Ye Pengfei seethed inwardly. It was not as though he had wanted to repay the money-he had had no choice!

He had no idea what Ye Fan had just done, but half his body had gone numb.

"This Ye Fan seems a little different," the beautiful woman said with a frown.

He certainly is! Ye Pengfei thought. At first, he had almost failed to recognize him. Ye Fan had always been gloomy, habitually keeping his head lowered, with an air of melancholy hanging over him. Yet the man he had just seen had bright eyes and looked positively lively and cheerful.
