[Has anyone else actually witnessed their boss having sex in a car?]
The title was too explosive to resist, and Shen Yi tapped on it.
After reading it, all he could think was that being a CEO's special assistant was no job for a human being! It was a seriously high-risk profession!
I've been at this job for about three months. As a special assistant, I don't just handle work matters; I also have to be on call for my boss's private life. My direct superior is young, successful, and handsome, and he's pretty well known in the industry. I won't say exactly who he is, though.
Here's what happened. He recently met an Omega, and he seems pretty obsessed. I think he's falling hard.
That day, I was driving, with my boss and that Omega in the back seat. At first, they were just chatting and laughing quietly, and things were getting flirty. But somehow, they ended up arguing over something trivial.
At the height of the argument, the Omega pointed at me in the driver's seat and said to my boss, "Look at your assistant. He hasn't said a single unnecessary word this whole trip, he drives so smoothly, and he's so emotionally stable! Mature, levelheaded, and reliable! Can't you learn something from him?"
My back instantly went rigid, and my grip on the steering wheel tightened. Sure enough, a second later, my boss's icy gaze pinned the back of my head through the rearview mirror. He scoffed, his voice dripping with enough contempt to freeze someone to death. "Him? He's a Beta. What does he know about the pheromonal attraction and natural urges between Alphas and Omegas? He's just doing his job, nothing more. How dare you compare him to me?"
Me: "..."
Thanks, I feel thoroughly insulted. There I was, diligently driving and trying my hardest to make myself invisible, only to get dragged into trouble out of nowhere. At that moment, I honestly wished a comet would hit Earth and put an end to this awkward situation where I couldn't win with either of them!
Then, as they kept arguing, they raised the partition, and I started hearing some very inappropriate noises through it!
It wasn't my first time getting caught in the crossfire like that, but only someone who's experienced it firsthand can understand how fucking awkward it is!
Anyway, what I want to say is this: can rich people please stop dragging innocent bystanders into their arguments? Stop testing the mental resilience and professionalism of us wage slaves!
Shen Yi lounged in his chair with his legs crossed, idly scrolling through his phone.
Early that morning, an anonymous post had appeared on City A's secretaries' forum, with a title so sensational it practically made people tap by accident. The post had shot to the top overnight, and the comments underneath were as lively as a crowded market:
Comment 1: "Pics or it didn't happen. Post a video and I'll believe you!"
Comment 2: "Could you be any more obvious about what you're after?"
Comment 3: "Who's this brave? Do they have a death wish?"
Comment 4: "I'm actually a little jealous of whoever was there..."
Comment 5: "You could count City A's young, handsome CEOs on both hands, right?"
Comment 6: "If we're talking outrageously handsome, could it be that guy from a certain pharmaceutical company?"
Comment 7: "Careful, you'll get your account banned! Isn't he famously allergic to Omega pheromones?"
At that, Shen Yi couldn't help raising an eyebrow. What a coincidence. He happened to be the special assistant to Yuan Chen, the CEO who was "allergic to Omega pheromones."
Everyone was guessing which CEO the post was about, but Shen Yi was more curious about who had posted it. Whoever it was had some nerve exposing their boss's private life online. The forum might be anonymous, but in the face of power and money, there was no such thing as a real secret.
Still, however much attention it drew, this sort of thing was nothing new in their line of work. Everyone knew what went on; no one brought it out into the open. After all, keeping your mouth shut was the most basic professional requirement for a CEO's secretary.
"Mr. Shen, your Americano is ready."
Shen Yi put away his phone and walked over to the pickup counter. As always, he had ordered a hot Americano with milk.
"Enjoy, and be careful. It's hot." The server smiled as she handed him the paper bag containing his coffee.
"Thank you." Shen Yi gave a slight nod, took the bag, and pushed the door open to leave.
It was exactly eight twenty. Monday through Friday, this routine never changed.
The morning air was cool, mingling with the rich aroma of coffee. Shen Yi took a deep breath, and a familiar weariness stirred inside him. Well, looks like another rough day ahead.
Once again, he wholeheartedly agreed: being a CEO's special assistant really was a high-risk profession.
He walked from the café to the villa in the wealthy neighborhood. From a distance, he could already see the black Rolls-Royce parked quietly outside the gate. As Shen Yi approached, the man standing beside it turned around.
"Good morning, Assistant Shen."
"Morning, Driver Zheng."
After a brief greeting, Shen Yi opened the rear door, lowered the center armrest, and settled the coffee securely into the cup holder. Then he carefully inspected the interior.
"Driver Zheng, turn off the heat and switch on the humidifier. President Yuan doesn't like the air too dry."
"Oh, of course!"
"Keep the temperature around twenty-four degrees Celsius. President Yuan usually drinks coffee on the way to work, so drive as smoothly as possible. Keep your answers brief. He hates rambling."
The driver's expression visibly stiffened. It was already his first day on the job, and with a boss this difficult to please, he grew even more nervous and barely dared to speak.
Seeing this, Shen Yi gave him a reassuring smile. "Nervous?"
"A little..."
"I'll cover for you if you make a mistake, too. Don't worry too much. Just do your job."
"All right."
The two stood side by side in front of the closed gate, waiting quietly.
Shen Yi raised his wrist to check his watch. "Three minutes left." His tone was certain.
"Does President Yuan leave at exactly the same time every day?"
"Yes. It hasn't changed once in six years."
Thinking about it, he had already been Yuan Chen's special assistant for six years. Time really flew.
At precisely eight thirty, the gate opened with a bang.
Yuan Chen's tall, straight figure appeared in the entrance. His hair was impeccably styled, and he wore a black suit. An S-Class Alpha, he had stern, cold features. To anyone else, it might simply have been an exceptionally handsome face, but to Shen Yi, who had looked after him for six years, no subtle shift in his expression could go unnoticed.
President Yuan was in a bad mood today.
Shen Yi stepped forward to greet him, and Yuan Chen responded with only a slight nod. The driver nervously opened the car door for him. Fortunately, the whole process went smoothly enough.
Shen Yi settled into the front passenger seat. The scent of coffee drifted through the car as he buckled his seat belt and observed the back seat through the rearview mirror. Yuan Chen's figure was clearly reflected in it. He had just taken a sip of coffee, but his brow remained tightly furrowed.
Shen Yi took his phone from his pocket. While checking the day's schedule, he sent a brief warning to the Secretary Department's group chat:
[Cumulus clouds present. Localized atmospheric instability possible.]
Shen Yi classified Yuan Chen's moods using an elaborate weather system. "Fine weather, good visibility" indicated his normal state; the thicker the clouds and the worse the weather, the worse his mood. Conversely, on the rare occasions when Yuan Chen felt low, Shen Yi used "calm winds" or "overcast." Of course, Yuan Chen was almost never overcast. Most of the time, his skies were clear.
Accompanying Yuan Chen to and from work and accurately assessing his "weather conditions" was part of Shen Yi's daily routine. A saying even circulated among the secretaries: no one in the world understood President Yuan better than their department head.
"President Yuan, may I go over today's schedule now?" Shen Yi turned around to ask.
"Wait until we get to the office." Yuan Chen's voice was icy, his words seeming to carry invisible blades of frost.
The air inside the car instantly froze. The driver could clearly feel the pressure. He stole a glance at the rearview mirror and quietly turned the car stereo up a little.
"Turn it off! Do I need to remind you about something like this?" Yuan Chen's tone was even colder than before.
Predictably, the driver had walked straight into the line of fire. Even the classical music Yuan Chen listened to most often couldn't save the situation now.
"I'm sorry. That was my oversight." Shen Yi apologized on his behalf. The car instantly fell deathly silent, with only the sound of strained breathing remaining.
The driver was scared out of his wits, his eyes fixed on the road ahead. While waiting at a red light, he swallowed hard and worked up the courage to glance sideways. Assistant Shen's eyes were lowered, his fingertips tapping the phone screen as he quickly sent another warning:
[Warning! Atmospheric pressure is plummeting. Thunderstorms expected!]
