Background / History
Yuan Hao is Yuan Chen’s older cousin and Chairman Yuan’s grandson. Their competition for advancement within Akit Pharmaceuticals predates the main events: the struggle for the next board seat was already an open secret during Shen Yi’s first year at the company. Their rivalry later centers on succeeding their grandfather as chairman 3 9 45.
Despite holding a position comparable to Yuan Chen’s, Yuan Hao trails him in company influence and repeatedly falls short of his performance. He cultivates internal supporters to gain their grandfather’s approval and resents the prestige attached to Yuan Chen’s S-Class Alpha designation 12.
Appearance
Yuan Hao is handsome, with a fashionable air that contrasts with Yuan Chen’s more classical, dignified appearance 12.
- Eyes: Sharp and narrow 12.
- Face: Thin and sharply defined; becomes noticeably haggard during the media investigation 44.
- Expressions: His anger frequently shows through a flushed face, shaking fists, or bloodshot eyes 11 45 46.
Personality
Yuan Hao is impulsive, competitive, and easily provoked. His sense of inferiority toward Yuan Chen drives him to target not only his cousin’s reputation but also the people around him. Even Shen Yi becomes an object of envy once Yuan Hao recognizes how much Yuan Chen values his assistant 12.
He can be sociable and well connected, moving comfortably among business acquaintances, but uses that ease to stage public humiliations. At an entrepreneurs’ luncheon, he deliberately provokes Yuan Chen with baseless sexual insinuations about Shen Yi and is pleased when he finally draws an angry response 32.
His feelings for Ouyang Keke are described as genuine, yet his pursuit is possessive and unwelcome. He also replaces subordinates on a whim and reacts to the loss of his political supporters by treating them as traitors rather than accepting responsibility for his scandal 10 12 45.
Abilities & Skills
Alpha Pheromones
- His pheromone clash with Yuan Chen causes an office purifier to operate at maximum intensity 12.
- During the later fight, his aggressive pheromones overwhelm the recently differentiated Shen Yi and contribute to putting him into shock 45 46.
- Yuan Chen’s stronger pheromones subsequently sweep away the lingering effects of Yuan Hao’s assault 47.
Physical Strength
- While Shen Yi is still a Beta, restraining Yuan Hao requires considerable effort; the narration notes that Shen Yi succeeds only because Yuan Hao retains some restraint 12.
- Yuan Hao later overpowers Shen Yi and pins him against a wall by the throat 46.
- He is no match for Yuan Chen in their direct confrontation: his strikes are blocked, and Yuan Chen ultimately knocks him unconscious 46.
Corporate Connections and Resources
- Cultivates supporters within Akit and maintains numerous business acquaintances 12 32.
- Has access to an elite legal team that gets him off the hook after a police investigation 44.
- Attempts to suppress investigative reporting through bribery and threats, without success 44.
- Reportedly assembles another group of supporters after his transfer to D City 64.
Relationships
- Yuan Chen — Younger cousin and principal rival for the chairmanship. Yuan Hao envies his status and influence; their conflict escalates from reputation attacks to physical violence 9 12 45 46.
- Chairman Yuan — Grandfather whose approval Yuan Hao seeks. After the scandal damages Akit’s reputation, the chairman orders disciplinary action that effectively excludes him from the headquarters succession contest 12 45.
- Shen Yi — Yuan Chen’s assistant. Yuan Hao unsuccessfully tries to recruit him, later makes suggestive remarks about him, and eventually assaults him over his connection to the investigating editor-in-chief 12 38 46.
- Ouyang Keke — Omega actor whom Yuan Hao repeatedly approaches about becoming his kept lover. Keke refuses him, and Yuan Chen exploits Yuan Hao’s attachment through a staged romance 10 12.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Rumors and the Staged Romance
- Yuan Hao spreads rumors intended to embarrass Yuan Chen over his supposed inability to perform and lack of interest in Omegas. Yuan Chen counters by arranging a fake relationship with Ouyang Keke, whom Yuan Hao has unsuccessfully pursued for six months 9 10 12.
- A misleading photograph brings Yuan Hao storming into Yuan Chen’s office. He demands that Yuan Chen end the relationship, charges at him, and must be escorted out by Shen Yi 11 12.
- Outside the office, Yuan Hao offers to double Shen Yi’s annual salary. Shen Yi shows no interest, and the offer prompts Yuan Chen to prioritize his assistant’s contract renewal 12.
Targeting Shen Yi’s Differentiation
- After Shen Yi becomes an Omega and resigns, Yuan Hao publicly suggests that Yuan Chen caused his differentiation through repeated marking. The narration explicitly identifies these claims as baseless provocation 32.
- Yuan Hao hints that he might pursue Shen Yi, then sends him an invitation for drinks. Shen Yi deletes the message and blocks him 32 33.
- Yuan Chen suspects Yuan Hao of organizing Wang Zixuan’s workplace-harassment lawsuit to expose his aversion to Omega pheromones and undermine his leadership. This involvement is presented through Yuan Chen’s assessment, rather than an admission by Yuan Hao 36.
- When Shen Yi returns to work, Yuan Hao questions whether an Omega can appropriately serve as secretary and implies an arrangement outside work. Shen Yi warns him against inappropriate remarks 38.
Media Scandal and Disciplinary Action
- Yuan Chen and Shen Yi help bring Yuan Hao’s misconduct to public attention through Shen Yi’s media contact and evidence collected in advance. Reporting exposes his past actions and psychological manipulation of an Omega researcher despite his efforts to silence the outlet 44.
- At the emergency board meeting, Chairman Yuan condemns conduct involving molestation and drug abuse. Yuan Hao claims he was framed and argues that a settlement and the completed police investigation have resolved the matter 44.
- The scandal causes Akit’s stock to fall by 7%, and most of Yuan Hao’s supporters abandon him 45.
| Disciplinary measure | Terms |
|---|---|
| Suspension | One month 45 |
| Salary reduction | Three months 45 |
| Transfer | Indefinite reassignment to the D City branch, cutting him off from headquarters’ inner circle 45 |
Assault at Headquarters
- After the board approves his punishment, Yuan Hao attacks Yuan Chen in the corridor. Yuan Chen pulls him into an empty meeting room to keep his uncontrolled pheromones away from Shen Yi 45.
- Yuan Hao sprays a fire extinguisher at Yuan Chen, then strangles Shen Yi after accusing him of concealing his connection to the editor-in-chief. Yuan Chen intervenes, knocks Yuan Hao unconscious, and has security remove him 46.
- Yuan Hao is taken to the hospital. News of his attacks on Yuan Chen and an Omega employee further enrages Chairman Yuan 47.
- Shen Yi declines to press charges, although Yuan Chen arranges medical documentation and photographs the bruises on his neck as evidence 48 49.
D City and Attempted Comeback
- Yuan Hao’s transfer is accelerated under pressure from the chairman, and the official notice is released shortly afterward 49 50.
- Assistant Lin later reports that Yuan Hao has gathered supporters and may achieve strong results in the second half of the year, raising concerns about a comeback 64.
- By Chapter 105, office gossip claims that Yuan Hao has returned to his old habits and been brought in for questioning again. Shen Yi considers the reports nearly confirmed and a return to headquarters unlikely 105.
