Early the next morning, everyone went home or headed straight to work as needed. Sister Ying took her daughter to kindergarten and agreed to arrange Xiao Xi's enrollment for Shi Yuan. Shi Yuan wanted somewhere close to the house if possible. Lu Budai had neither a foothold nor money yet and still had a long struggle ahead of him, so he might not be able to look after Xiao Xi. It was dangerous for such a young child to stay home alone all the time. If her school was close to the house, Shi Yuan could help take care of her.
It was almost noon when Shi Yuan finally received You Gui's call. She was silent for a while, long enough to make him start worrying, before she said, "I finish work at six this afternoon. Could you come take a look with me?" She was frightened and uneasy, though she couldn't say what exactly scared her. Having Shi Yuan with her would put her at ease.
Relieved, Shi Yuan readily agreed. "Of course!"
Xiao Ying and Xiao Wen had gone out together that morning. Shi Yuan ate lunch with Xiao Xi, who was still very reserved around him and only dared take tiny portions of the dishes directly in front of her.
Shi Yuan put a big chicken drumstick on her plate. He could plainly see the desire on her face and couldn't help smiling. "Tell me what you want to eat, and I'll get it for you."
Xiao Xi nodded timidly, but unconsciously began eating the drumstick faster.
After lunch, Auntie Qiu took Xiao Xi for her nap, and Shi Yuan drove straight to Yuanlin Media. It was close to Magic Cube anyway, so he could wait for You Gui at the office and check on Lu Budai's
