"What are you apologizing for?" Feng Wanting tossed the album into the box, crouched down, and carefully sealed it back up before standing. "It's fine. The bike's ready. Let's go."
On the elevator ride down, Pei Yang kept wanting to say something, but worried he would say the wrong thing. His fingers picked nervously at the handlebars.
"The other person in the photo," Feng Wanting said, unexpectedly breaking the tense silence, "is my older brother."
Hearing Feng Wanting speak, Pei Yang relaxed. "Oh," he said, nodding. "You look a lot alike."
"Mm." The elevator lighting left half of Feng Wanting's features in shadow. "A lot of people say that."
Pei Yang wasn't sure whether he was imagining it, but Feng Wanting's attitude toward his brother seemed a little strange. Whenever he mentioned him, his mood grew particularly subdued. Pei Yang didn't dare ask any more questions and let the subject drop.
After wheeling the bicycle outside, Feng Wanting placed a cushion on the hard rear rack. It was a very thoughtful gesture, but Pei Yang found it humiliating.
He let out a breath. "You don't need that. I stopped hurting ages ago."
"Sit on it." Feng Wanting swung a leg over the bicycle. "The seat's a little hard. It'll dig into you."
Reluctantly, Pei Yang sat sideways on the rear rack.
"Off we go." As soon as the words left his mouth, the bicycle shot forward.
