The dwarves were divided into three clans, all of which had originally lived in Ironforge in Dun Morogh under the rule of the Mountain King, Modimus Anvilmar. The first was the Bronzebeard Dwarves, led by Prince Madoran Bronzebeard. This clan was closest to the Mountain King and occupied the very heart of Ironforge.
The second was the Wildhammer Dwarves, led by Prince Khardros Wildhammer. They were larger than the Bronzebeard Dwarves and lived in the hills of Dun Morogh. The third was the Dark Iron Dwarves, led by the mage-prince Thaurissan, who lived among the underground mineral veins beneath Ironforge.
After the Mountain King, Modimus Anvilmar, died, divisions began to emerge among the dwarves. Both the Wildhammer Dwarves and the Dark Iron Dwarves were driven out of Ironforge. The Wildhammer Dwarves founded Grim Batol, while the Dark Iron Dwarves built an underground city in the Redridge Mountains and named it after Thaurissan.
Later, the War of the Three Hammers broke out again. The Dark Iron Dwarves' mage-prince Thaurissan and his wife, the Witch Lady, divided their forces and attacked Ironforge and Grim Batol simultaneously.
The mage-prince's army was defeated at Ironforge and fled back to its base in the Redridge Mountains. This affected his wife's campaign at Grim Batol and ultimately led to her death.
But the dark magic the Witch Lady unleashed before her death had contaminated vast stretches of Grim Batol, making it unfit for the Wildhammer Dwarves to live in. Only then did they move their headquarters to Aerie Peak and build a city there.
But when exactly had the Wildhammer Dwarves moved here? What year had it been? Yu Lin Bloodhawk paced back and forth, searching his memory. He felt he had made a mistake-a very serious mistake.
He had let his preconceptions get the better
