The choice of weapons sparked considerably more debate this time. First, there was disagreement over what to issue the trolls. Some advocated two-handed spears because they were the cheapest option. Others favored two-handed swords for their greater reach. With the argument dragging on, Yu Lin Bloodhawk chose a two-handed sword called the Bone-Cleaver Sword.
Both its hilt and blade were long, giving it a broad effective striking range. Compared with heavy weapons such as greatswords, two-handed axes, and two-handed hammers, however, it was fairly light, falling into the medium-weight category. In essence, it was simply an elongated Tang saber, except that both edges were sharpened. Its price was acceptable, and its appearance suited Yu Lin Bloodhawk's tastes.
Next came the human soldiers' one-handed swords. Initially, 1617 had selected conventional double-edged swords, since those were standard equipment for soldiers of the Human Kingdom. Yu Lin Bloodhawk shook his head at the sight. The battlefield had long since proved that those swords were less useful than curved blades, so he selected a one-handed weapon called the Ebony Scimitar as their standard issue.
This blade was almost a replica of the Blazing Rapier and closely resembled the standard military saber used by the rangers of Quel'Thalas. However, the Ebony Scimitar was somewhat heavier than their saber. Yu Lin Bloodhawk felt that although it suited human soldiers who fought exclusively in melee, it was unsuitable for elf rangers because of that extra weight.
In particular, almost all the troops currently under his command were sky cavalry, and every additional ounce was unnecessary. When it came to the elves' melee weapons, however, everyone had already reached a consensus. There were only three requirements: a one-handed sword, light weight, and moderate length.
This was nothing like hunters in a game, who could carry bows and arrows
