During the retreat, Yu Lin Bloodhawk had actually considered splashing oil and other flammable substances all around the camp, then sending Gryphon Riders back to drop incendiary bombs once the Orcs entered and hold a grand barbecue.
The camp was built almost entirely of wood. Incendiary bombs alone would not be enough to set those enormous logs alight, but with oil and other such substances splashed over them... they would burn much more easily.
After thinking it over, though, he decided against it. If he enraged those Orcs and made them hate the Elves so much that they pursued them relentlessly, things would get ugly. They were not safe yet, so it was better not to draw too much hatred.
Besides, spreading oil and the like would take time and effort. If the Orcs caught on, he would only be making trouble for himself. The sooner they could get away from danger, the better.
Amitabha, safety first. Everyone had achieved their goals. I let you have the position, you let me run away, and we all go our separate ways and back home to our mothers. Wouldn't that be nice? A win-win! An absolute win-win!
But would the Orcs see it that way? Only the Orcs themselves knew.
The Gryphon Riders' aerial reconnaissance was a tremendous help to the Elves during their retreat. They always knew where and when the Orcs were blocking their path, as well as how far the pursuers behind them had advanced, so avoiding them was relatively easy.
The Lordaeron Burning Legion was not so fortunate. Wolf Riders caught up with them from behind, and the two sides fought. In the end, only a few Lordaeron commanders escaped with a troop of cavalry. Everyone else was hunted down and killed by the Orcs.
