Back above Menethil City, Yu Lin Bloodhawk discovered that although the area held by the orcs was still expanding, its growth had slowed considerably. A disciplined unit of Proudmoore soldiers had formed a line between the United Nations Burning Legion and the elves, ruthlessly cutting down any Legion soldiers who retreated.
Clearly, Daelin had finally decided to deploy a Blocking Detachment, using an even more terrifying threat of death to curb the soldiers' fear of their powerful enemies. A Blocking Detachment was a common wartime measure, and a highly effective one.
The human soldiers and orc warriors were locked in fierce combat. The orc troops were like air being pumped into a balloon, while the human and elf army's defensive line was the thin skin enclosing it-a skin the orcs could puncture at any moment.
The orc shamans, warlocks, and death knights slaughtered their way through the crowds without restraint, while the elf mages fought desperately to strike back. Unfortunately, having spared no mana in destroying the Infernals earlier, the elf spellcasters were now running low. Despite greatly outnumbering the orcs' spellcasters, they were getting slightly the worse of the magical exchange.
Had that been all, it would not have been so bad. What frustrated the Combined Army most was that those the orcs killed were living people, while most of the enemies their own soldiers struck down had already died once.
These enemies would only die if their heads were cut off or their hearts pierced. Even when the human soldiers severed both their arms, they kept advancing, attacking with bites and headbutts. This utterly fearless, frenzied army of the dead dealt a crushing blow to the Allied Army's morale.
Over a hundred death knights rode Death Warhorses with flames rising from all four hooves, like invincible legends on
