What baffled all the commanders of the Elven Expeditionary Burning Legion was that the Orcs were retreating not southwest, but northwest.
Logically, after their failed siege, the Orcs should have retreated southwest, where three regions met and large numbers of their main forces were concentrated.
So why were these surviving Orcs Forces retreating northwest instead? Even the Windrunner Sisters were at a loss. They had ruled out every explanation they could come up with.
Had the Orcs lost their heads in anger and made a fatal strategic mistake? Not only did the Windrunner Sisters refuse to believe it, but none of the commanders of the Elven Expeditionary Burning Legion would accept such a ridiculous explanation either.
Then what had made the Orcs do the exact opposite? Beyond the swamps to the northwest lay the uninhabited, impassable Impassable Mountains, and there were no Orcs Forces there now. Weren't they marching to their deaths?
Yet this retreat route had neatly thwarted the Elven Expeditionary Burning Legion's interception plan, forcing the Allied Army to pursue them instead.
"Send word to Admiral Daelin! We'll have a hard time catching the Orcs Remnants!" Sylvanas sighed. "Their Death Knights are using Path of Frost to clear the way. It lets them cross the swamps as though they were walking on level ground. Our elves all have mounts, but they're little use in swamps like these."
"We did misjudge the situation!" Alleria said with a nod.
Then she turned to a Gryphon Rider. "Send someone to Admiral Daelin. Give him an accurate report on the Orcs Remnants and tell him we can't catch them. Not unless there's a force ahead of them that can hold them up for a while, or someone can kill all their Death Knights right now."
The Gryphon Rider acknowledged the order and
