Perhaps seeing the grueling training the elves endured had made them feel better about their own lot! Was this what people meant when they said comparisons only hurt?

Shidewa and Xinluoge inspected the soldiers every day. Whether they were Vilebranch Trolls, the elves of the Bloodhawk Burning Legion, or the City Lord Guard, whether they were marching or encamped, the two men went to check on them whenever they had time. They placed particularly high hopes in the Bloodhawk Burning Legion.

When this reinforced eastern legion was formed, the elves and Vilebranch Trolls were organized into separate regiments. All the elves had battle pets. Although most were dire wolves with relatively little fighting strength, they were still battle pets and would at least solve plenty of problems while the troops were on garrison duty. There was no need to worry about them.

The Vilebranch Trolls were different. They had a few beast slave tamers who raised dire wolves, but far too few. As it happened, the dire wolf breeding and training base in Quel'Thalas had quite a few breeding males slated to be culled. The Army General Staff therefore proposed to the Quel'Danil Council that they purchase more war wolves to strengthen the Vilebranch Trolls.

After weighing the matter repeatedly, the Quel'Danil Council finally agreed to the Army General Staff's proposal. They purchased another two thousand dire wolves from Quel'Thalas for the Vilebranch Trolls of the Eastern Burning Legion.

The Vilebranch Trolls had their own traditional methods of training wolves and needed no guidance from the elves. Thus, on their daily marches, the Vanguard consisted mainly of over two thousand Vilebranch beast slave tamers and their dire wolves, clearing the way ahead. More than four thousand troll regulars marched in the middle, while the Elf Forces brought up the rear.
