Hadn't I watched enough melodramatic TV plots in my previous life about palace intrigue, struggles for the throne and power, people turning on their own families, and brothers killing each other? Back then, I always thought this one was a dumbass and that one was an idiot, letting misplaced compassion ruin everything at the last moment. I even called the screenwriters brain-dead. But wasn't I being just as brain-dead now?
What should I do now? Neither side was easy to help. I didn't dare help either of them anymore.
If I helped these old-established nobles, I'd not only dishearten my former human subordinates, but probably disappoint the High Elves serving under me now, too! They might think those people had once served Yu Lin Bloodhawk as well, yet look how they'd ended up. What would happen to them in the future?
If I helped my former human subordinates, I'd deepen Lothar's suspicions! They wouldn't merely think that Yu Lin Bloodhawk personally had designs on the Kingdom of Stormwind Restoration Corps. They'd think the High Elves wanted to use control of the corps as a means to control and influence the entire Kingdom of Stormwind in the future.
At first, that suspicion might only make Stormwind's leadership wary of the High Elves. But resentment would inevitably grow over time, and it wouldn't be surprising if they eventually turned against each other.
By then, the other Human Kingdoms, and even the Dwarves, Gnomes, and other races within the Alliance, would probably become wary of the High Elves too!
And once Lothar began harboring those suspicions, what position would that leave the deeply distrusted Kingdom of Stormwind Restoration Corps in? How would my former subordinates be treated?
*Perhaps their individual military achievements would eventually leave Lothar no choice but to grant them noble
