Warchief Doomhammer was really only using those half-civilized Zul'Aman trolls. Otherwise, how could his two elite orc wolf rider legions carry out a surprise attack on Lordaeron City?
Unless the rear of those two elite raiding legions was secured, the high elf rangers riding white frost wolves could exhaust both legions simply by trailing them, keeping their distance, and harassing them with mounted archery. Even if they eventually reached Lordaeron City, they would probably have little strength left to assault it!
Besides, with so many high elf rangers tying them down, how could those two orc wolf rider legions march swiftly? Without a swift march, how could they even talk about a surprise attack?
Forget a surprise attack. By the time they reached the walls of Lordaeron City, their slow advance would probably have given the city ample time to prepare a large force to defend it.
How could that still be called a raid? By then, it would be nothing more than a frontal assault!
That was why Warchief Doomhammer's order had to be carried out, and its objective had to be achieved. Only when their rear was secure could the orc wolf rider raiding legions achieve their goal of launching a surprise attack on Lordaeron.
This was an overarching strategy, and for now, it remained a closely guarded secret even among the orcs' senior leadership.
After all, the orcs had already signed an alliance with the Zul'Aman trolls. If the trolls learned what the orcs were planning, would they still commit all their troops?
This was a tremendous gamble that would determine the ultimate victory or defeat of the orcs and the Alliance across the battlefields of Azeroth. Thus, very few people could be allowed to know the secret, and their new allies, the Zul'Aman trolls, absolutely could
