The Orcs Vanguard Commander did not know whether the army's main force, a full five kilometers away, could receive word that they had encountered the enemy.

Had they been out on the plains, a mere five kilometers would not have been far at all. The sound of a magical signal flare could easily have carried that distance, and its magical light would have been clearly visible.

But they were in Eversong Woods now. The magical signal flare had produced considerable echoes through the trees. By the time the sound traveled five kilometers, who knew what it would sound like-or whether anyone in the main force could still hear it?

As for seeing it... that was not even worth considering. The hazy morning mist had already obscured everyone's vision beyond a short distance, and the morning mist in Singing Forest was worse still, making it all the more irritating. Besides, an aggravating drizzle was falling, further obstructing their view.

Cavalry differed from infantry. Infantry excelled at defense; cavalry excelled at attack.

The Orcs Vanguard Commander was uneasy now. He very much wanted to send his elite Wolf Riders charging forward and force his way through the encirclement.

But the morning mist in Eversong Woods had yet to disperse completely. He still could not determine the exact strength of the High Elf ambush, while the High Elf army had clearly made thorough preparations.

With a prepared enemy facing his unprepared troops, the commander of the Orc Wolf Rider Vanguard was unwilling to send his soldiers blindly charging into the enemy and suffer needless casualties.

Fortunately, apart from ambushing the squadron of wolf-mounted archers, the High Elf army had made no further moves. The Orcs Vanguard Commander was therefore not particularly anxious yet.

It was better if the High Elves did not attack
