"Then we'll kill them!" the leader of the Vilebranch Troll Armed Police said.
"Wait, don't you need some sort of ceremony to join the Vilebranch Trolls?" Yu Lin Bloodhawk asked again, pressing for details in his confusion.
"A ceremony?" The leader of the Vilebranch Troll Armed Police tilted his head and thought for a moment.
"Yes... like when you swear an oath before the War God!" Yu Lin Bloodhawk reminded him.
"Oh, you mean those!" Understanding dawned on the leader of the Vilebranch Troll Armed Police. "The priests handle all that. It's none of our business!"
"What if the priests don't do it?" Yu Lin Bloodhawk pressed.
"The priests don't do it?" The leader of the Vilebranch Troll Armed Police seemed never to have encountered such a question before.
He shook his head. "Why wouldn't the priests do it?"
"I mean hypothetically. If your priests didn't perform the ceremony, would he still count as having joined the Vilebranch Trolls?"
"Of course not!" the leader of the Vilebranch Armed Police said.
Yu Lin Bloodhawk finally felt relieved.
Fortunately, joining the Vilebranch Trolls was not simply a matter of saying so. At least a priest still had to do something to acknowledge it. Otherwise, Yu Lin Bloodhawk would have been genuinely worried.
"What if there aren't any priests?" Yu Lin Bloodhawk asked again.
The leader of the Vilebranch Troll Armed Police scratched his head, apparently wondering what to do himself. After a short while, he said, "Then... we'd just have to swear an oath, like we did when we pledged our loyalty to you, Master."
"Oh!" Yu Lin Bloodhawk thought it over. That's true! If they could pledge their loyalty to me that way back then, why couldn't others pledge their loyalty to someone else the same way?
