"Enough, I'm done talking to you. Just take care of things here. I'll go to the Old High Priest now and get you two frost spellcasters. Report any progress or unexpected developments to me immediately," Yu Lin Bloodhawk said with a wave.
"Understood, sir!" the city's Household Guard officer replied.
Yu Lin Bloodhawk grunted in acknowledgment and strolled out of the cave.
Long after Yu Lin Bloodhawk's footsteps had faded away...
"The City Lord said he kept a low profile!" an elf ranger murmured in the darkness. It was hard to tell whether he was speaking to someone else or to himself.
"Hee-hee..."
"Heh-heh..."
"Ha-ha..."
Several different chuckles drifted through the darkness, but no one picked up the conversation. The City Lord was not nearly as broad-minded as he claimed, especially with people he knew well. He was even more particular about these little personal matters with them. If he caught wind of their loose talk, there was no telling when he might make life difficult for them. They had no desire to suffer themselves; they only wanted to watch someone else suffer. That would give them something else to laugh about!
After leaving, Yu Lin Bloodhawk went straight to the Old Charlatan. He explained the situation, then asked him to send two frost mages to the blocked entrance to support the operation. The Old Charlatan was brisk about it, immediately selecting two people and sending them over without another word. Then he ignored Yu Lin Bloodhawk and went back to instructing his cleric students in drawing the lines for the portal. Yu Lin Bloodhawk could only trail after him like a clingy little shadow.
"Go cool your heels somewhere else. Why do you keep following me?" The Old Charlatan finally lost patience with Yu Lin Bloodhawk sticking to him
