This struck Yu Lin Bloodhawk as rather strange. He looked toward both flanks again and found that far fewer centaurs had emerged from behind the smoke screen than he had expected-at least seventy or eighty percent fewer. Directly ahead, not a single centaur had broken through the band of smoke. Not one.
This was highly unusual. Something had to be behind such an anomaly. Had the centaurs discovered the trap? Surely not! He had been so careful. Could they really have spotted it so quickly?
Or were the centaurs too timid to charge blindly through the smoke screen? If so, hadn't his men shot themselves in the foot by throwing so many smoke bombs? Yu Lin Bloodhawk couldn't help feeling uneasy.
Although Yu Lin Bloodhawk had his doubts, he dared not send anyone through the smoke to investigate. He always approached unknown risks cautiously, so he could only watch as the smoke kept rising and dispersing. He knew the smoke bombs would eventually burn out, and the smoke would eventually clear. If the centaurs really were cautious enough to wait until then before attacking, there was little he could do. Right now, he only wanted to know what they were doing behind the smoke.
Yu Lin Bloodhawk couldn't help looking up. Three Gryphon Riders were circling overhead. If they couldn't see clearly from the ground, surely those in the air could see what was happening behind the smoke screen. What he couldn't understand was why the Gryphon Riders hadn't come down to report.
"Signal them. Have one of them come down. I want to know what's happening with the centaurs!" Yu Lin Bloodhawk told the signalman.
The signalman sent several flag signals before one of the Gryphon Riders finally noticed. After circling once overhead, the rider leisurely flew down beside
