The answer was simple: he was the highest-ranking officer in the valley. He was also a lord, and no one there outranked him in nobility. More importantly, he took his orders directly from Alleria.
He might have been only a unit commander, but he commanded the Explosive Bear Iron Fist! The subject of this meeting was the mission Corps Commander Alleria had assigned them.
There was nothing wrong with the corps commander's strategy. The question now was how exactly to deploy their mounted, fast-moving units.
Every unit in this valley belonged to the High Elves, because neither the eastern nor the western army corps from the Hinterlands had any ground cavalry.
Corps Commander Alleria required them to sever the connection between the Orc vanguard and the main force. The vanguard currently numbered six hundred, with fourteen hundred troops originally following behind as the main force. But Alleria had sent another update: the Orcs had suddenly dispatched three hundred troops past the vanguard to make straight for Stonard.
Such a maneuver was rarely seen on an ordinary march. Why would anyone do that?
At his level, the situation amounted to this: your superior had given you a fixed objective, and you still did not know how to carry it out? It was not that they did not know how, but that they needed to decide how they wanted to do it. How could they execute it perfectly?
