One glance from White Maitreya sent a chill into his very marrow.
He could already imagine White Maitreya tearing him apart with both claws after the evil demon inside a Buddha statue possessed him.
But once that chill in his heart subsided, Xu Taiping thought for a moment, then transmitted his voice to White Maitreya with utter seriousness:
"If I truly become something neither human nor ghost, then I'm sorry for the trouble."
Hearing this, White Maitreya opened its eyes again and gave Xu Taiping a long, searching look before transmitting its voice into his mind:
"Those Buddha statues that have not been possessed by evil demons will do you no harm, but they will draw Otherworldly Heavenly Demons here to hunt you."
"So even after choosing a Buddha statue, you must not let your guard down."
At this point, it hesitated slightly before speaking again:
"Also, though their numbers are small, there are still quite a few Yin Gods climbing Vulture Peak. Some have even wandered the stone steps to the summit for many years."
"But do not worry. As long as you do not touch them, they will not attack you."
Xu Taiping had not expected this seemingly unfriendly White Maitreya to begin offering him warnings of its own accord after what he had just said.
He therefore cupped his hands and bowed to White Maitreya again, thanking it inwardly:
"Thank you, Senior White Maitreya."
As though it had not heard Xu Taiping's thanks, White Maitreya buried its head deep in its wings and continued snoring away.
Seeing this, Xu Taiping immediately turned and stepped onto the moss-covered stairs.
At the same time, Lotus Eye, which had remained silent all this while, spoke:
"Xu Taiping, did that old fellow Daoxuan ever tell you how to receive the Buddha
