Teleportation Ring Was Actually a Dual-World Gate
"All ten are lit!"
At the sight of this, Luo Wen's heart began pounding faster.
He had bought this ring for two hundred yuan from an antique stall while traveling before his transmigration.
Later, after dying unexpectedly, his soul had transmigrated to the Marvel world. To his surprise, this ring had come along with him.
There was no need to say it—the ring had to be some extraordinary treasure.
Unfortunately, even after five years following his transmigration, he had never figured out what the ring did.
It was not until two years ago, when Luo Wen was accidentally electrocuted and discovered that the ring absorbed the current, that he found the method to activate it.
That was—charging.
As it absorbed electricity, dreamy blue mist would appear inside the blue gemstones embedded in the ring.
After discovering this, Luo Wen had been ecstatic. He had even specifically commissioned someone to make a wireless Maglev Charging Dock to charge the ring.
Unfortunately, the ring was truly a bottomless pit. It took two or three months of charging just to completely fill one gemstone with mist.
And so, he had charged it for two whole years.
Today, it was finally full.
"I wonder what changes this ring will undergo now that it's fully charged!"
Looking at the ring, whose aura was completely different from before, Luo Wen held his breath and slowly reached out to grasp it.
As Luo Wen's body came into contact with it, the ring seemed to sense something and gradually drew back its glowing mist.
After confirming that he felt no discomfort, Luo Wen let out a breath of relief. Then, he put the ring on the index finger of his right hand.
The instant he put it on, Luo Wen felt a faint stabbing pain where the ring touched his skin.
He saw wisps of red blood beneath his skin being absorbed by the ring.
Fortunately, after only two seconds, the ring stopped drawing his blood.
Luo Wen was still filled with suspicion and unease when, suddenly—
Bzzzt!
A vast, majestic aura spread outward from the ring.
In almost an instant, dark blue glowing mist surged out of the ring, forming a blue-black vortex the size of a fist.
Luo Wen felt an invisible shock and crushing pressure. Then, to his horror, he saw the blue-black vortex spin larger and larger until it finally swallowed him like the gaping maw of an abyss!
After a dizzying whirl, Luo Wen fell to the ground.
When he raised his eyes again, he was astonished to find that the scene before him had completely changed!
He was no longer in his bedroom, but in a dim alley.
Though old and worn, it was fairly tidy overall, just lacking much sunlight.
Though shocked inside, Luo Wen kept a calm expression as he quickly climbed to his feet and looked around.
Looking up, he found himself surrounded by densely packed apartment blocks, with numerous signboards hanging from them and flashing in every color.
The style was somewhat cyberpunk, though not completely so.
What made his heart race was that every one of those signboards was written in Chinese!
This definitely was not Chinatown in New York.
He had been to Chinatown in New York before. There were no apartment blocks on this scale, nor would it have this sort of cyberpunk aesthetic.
"Is this long-distance teleportation? Or... another transmigration?"
Luo Wen's mind raced.
But then his gaze swept across several large characters.
In the distance, on a structure resembling the entrance gate of a residential complex, he saw several words—South Shore District.
At the sight of those words, Luo Wen's brows immediately furrowed.
"South Shore District... that sounds familiar..."
But even after thinking for several seconds, Luo Wen still could not remember where he had seen it.
"Judging by the architectural style, this probably isn't the Earth from before my transmigration. Most likely, it's another world..."
Looking at his surroundings, Luo Wen silently made his deductions.
He instinctively looked at the Teleportation Ring on the index finger of his right hand, only to find that one of its gemstones had gone dark.
"So each 'transmigration' consumes the energy inside one gemstone..."
Looking at the tiny gemstone that had dimmed, Luo Wen roughly understood the ring's function.
"There's no one around. The most urgent matter is figuring out whether this is a portal or random transmigration."
Looking at the ring on his hand, Luo Wen thought in place for a moment before mentally identifying the key issue.
"How do I activate the ring's teleportation effect... I'll try concentrating first."
Luo Wen did not rush to explore this new world. Instead, he first tried to communicate with the ring and see whether it could send him back to the Marvel world.
Sure enough, as he focused all his attention on the ring, a wisp of blue mist swiftly formed a dark blue vortex before him and swallowed him whole.
The next second, the world spun around him, and Luo Wen returned to his apartment at S.H.I.E.L.D.
Feeling slightly dizzy, Luo Wen dropped onto his bed.
"I'm back."
Luo Wen let out a long sigh of relief.
At the same time, joy welled up in his heart.
He understood how to use the ring now.
Luo Wen raised his hand and looked down. Of the ring's original ten bright blue gemstones, two had gone dark, leaving only eight still shining.
"So every time I open a portal, it consumes the energy of one gemstone?"
Luo Wen secretly found this troublesome.
Charging a single gemstone took two or three months, while a round trip consumed the energy of two gemstones.
Who could keep that up?
"Looks like I'll have to find a chance to get in touch with Tony Stark. I wonder whether his Arc Reactor can charge the ring faster."
Luo Wen rubbed the ring as he thought silently.
Naturally, he did not believe that electricity was the only way to power the ring.
Most likely, electricity was simply the worst possible energy source for the ring, which was why charging it took so long.
In theory, the Arc Reactor should be able to supply the ring with energy much faster.
"I'll travel through it once more and see whether it sends me somewhere random or whether it's a fixed Dual-World Gate."
Although it pained him to see the ring's energy being consumed so quickly, Luo Wen still wanted to fully understand his cheat.
So, he focused his mind again and communicated with the ring.
Immediately, the blue-black vortex reappeared.
This time, Luo Wen was prepared. Though the world spun around him once more, he barely steadied himself and did not fall.
The darkness before his eyes faded away, revealing the same dim alley. In the distance stood the same cyberpunk-style South Shore District.
"So that's it. This ring is a Dual-World Gate."
Seeing the scene before him, Luo Wen completely understood the ring's function.
It was a Dual-World Gate connecting the Marvel world and this world.
"Then the next step is figuring out exactly what world this is."
Luo Wen pondered this to himself.
He actually had some guesses. This was probably another world he was familiar with, because South Shore District did sound somewhat familiar.
