Stirred into a Mess!

The disciples guarding the array hurried forward and roughly explained what had happened. As the deacon listened, he studied the Jade Sealing Cup, his expression growing darker and darker. At last, he cupped his hands solemnly toward Luo Wen. "Thank you for stepping in, Mr. Luo."

"Too early for thanks," Luo Wen said. "Clear out your sample archive first."

"Yes. The institute will investigate this matter to the end," the deacon said, then looked at Lu Chi and Ning Xiaohe. "And these two are?"

"Here to watch the show," Luo Wen said.

Lu Chi and Ning Xiaohe both froze.

The deacon clearly did not believe the "just taking a look" explanation from the disciples guarding the array, but he did not press further. He only smiled. "To manage to watch a show like that is no easy feat either."

Lu Chi was left so embarrassed he no longer knew how to stand.

Ning Xiaohe, on the other hand, quietly let out a breath of relief. She was not used to being watched and praised by unfamiliar elders. That feeling made her even more nervous than standing beside the array had.

Now that the people from the Pharmacology Institute had arrived, the follow-up work no longer had anything to do with them. Luo Wen led the two of them away from the clearing and back along a gravel path nearby. The grass on both sides of the path was still beaded with water. Sunlight finally slipped out from behind the clouds, and when it fell, the droplets flashed one after another, like tiny lamps strung along the tips of the grass.
