He pushed open the door and stepped outside. A cold wind hit him head-on, making him hunch his neck. The sky was indeed clear, and the sun had already risen above the eaves. Golden light spread across the whole courtyard, making the bluestone slabs gleam brightly. The shadow of the wintersweet tree fell across the ground, fine and dense, much clearer than yesterday, as though someone had traced over it with a brush.
Ning Xiaohe was already up, squatting beneath the corridor. The basin of snow had completely melted, leaving only pale yellow water glittering with tiny flecks of light in the sun.
