Stage / Realm / Level Chapter Notes
Half-step Transcendent God Realm 48 Historical breakthrough recalled by the Spirit Devouring King. Shortly after entering this realm, Xu Fangyuan defeated the more experienced beast in less than two hours, leaving him barely alive.
Supergod Second Tier 11 Had just broken through when he confronted Giant-Toothed Shark approximately two hundred years earlier. His Star Martial Soul overwhelmed the shark despite its secret-art boost to Supergod Third Tier.
Supergod Third Tier 23 24 Explicitly identified during his confrontation with Chen Dao. Their strongest attacks collide and force both fighters backward; Xu Fangyuan subsequently displays his third-tier pressure during their successor dispute.
Supreme God realm / Supreme God Third Heaven 29 30 Protects Qian Fan and Xu Yuan'er from tribulation lightning with his Star Martial Soul. The following chapter presents him examining his Supreme God power, gathering residual heavenly lightning, and declaring his intention to pursue a higher realm.
  • Terminology varies: the narration already calls him a Supreme God before the lightning incident, later returns to “Supergod Third Tier,” and also uses “Supreme God Realm Third Order.” These descriptions do not establish separate additional breakthroughs 18 31 43 44.

Background / History

Xu Fangyuan belonged to the primordial Four Supergods alongside Sea Emperor Chen Dao, Fire Emperor Feng Xian, and Heaven Emperor Li Guixian. In the great battle ten thousand years earlier, he suffered grave injuries and lost comrades he regarded as brothers. Feng Xian and Li Guixian disappeared in connection with that conflict 24.

Approximately two hundred years before Qian Fan’s arrival, Xu Fangyuan stopped Giant-Toothed Shark’s retaliatory massacre at its twenty-eighth city. Rather than kill the defeated shark, he brought a leading physician to treat it, then confined it as the guardian of the Atlantis Secret Realm and permanently sealed its cultivation at Supergod Second Tier 11.

Xu Fangyuan raised Xu Yuan'er after his son, Xu Xingnian, left her in his care before she was a year old. He devoted his affection to her to compensate for her father’s neglect, although his responsibilities as Domain Lord often prevented him from providing the companionship she needed 18.

Appearance

  • Elderly features: a beard, gaunt fingers, forehead wrinkles, and increasingly white hair 7 18 19.
  • Build: tall and imposing in battle 23.
  • Clothing: a plain white robe whose sleeves leave faint stellar trails across jade flooring 8.
  • Signs of exhaustion: a progressively gaunt face and lines around his eyes associated with overwork and chronic lack of sleep 18.

Personality

Xu Fangyuan is fiercely protective of Xu Yuan'er. He initially forbids her from leaving the Star God Palace with Qian Fan and intervenes even when the two embrace. Nevertheless, her anger and tears repeatedly soften him, and he eventually accepts their relationship after she explains that she fell for Qian Fan first 8 9 11 27 34.

His concern for the domain can override his family’s immediate wishes. He sends Qian Fan into dangerous trials because he believes the young man’s strength may determine the Seven Star Domain’s survival. When Xu Yuan'er disappears, he refuses to launch a personal attack on the Phoenix Domain because doing so would plunge his own domain into war 11 44.

He enjoys teasing Qian Fan and trading insults with Chen Dao. After deciphering the Jade Tube, he smugly refuses to explain its contents to Qian Fan. As a cultivation mentor, however, he stresses steady accumulation, combat experience, and improvement of one’s state of mind rather than shortcuts 24 27 30.
