Ever since the Heaven Sect was founded, Tang Xuan had grown even busier. He had not set foot in the academy for several months, spending that time traveling between major cities and even kingdoms. Since the Heaven Sect had only just been established, he needed a general understanding of its affairs. (But the main reason was to make it easier for him to become a hands-off boss later.)
After returning to the academy, he had to seek out Grandmaster for remedial lessons day and night. Tang Xuan sighed inwardly. No matter where I am, as long as I'm a student, I can't escape the fate of taking extra lessons! Sigh, what needs catching up on still needs catching up on -_-||
Although he was busy with sect affairs, Tang Xuan had not neglected his cultivation, and his soul power had already reached rank twenty-eight. Whenever he visited a major city, he would go to the local Soul Fighting Arena to participate in soul fighting. Over this period, he had accumulated a wealth of combat experience, and his soul fighting rank had already reached Silver Soul Fighter.
While at the sect, he would also occasionally seek advice from Lin Ao and the others and spar with them. Sparring with Soul Douluo experts of their extraordinary strength benefited him tremendously. Little tricks offered no advantage against powerful opponents; he could only rely on his own strength.
Today, Tang Xuan was enjoying a rare rest in the dormitory.
"Ah, a little peace and quiet at last." Tang Xuan stretched and leaned back on his bed, reading the notes Grandmaster had asked Tang San to bring him.
Tang San and Xiao Wu had just returned from sparring outside, and they were especially surprised to see Tang Xuan in the dormitory! He had been so busy lately that they never even caught a glimpse of him. He would often disappear for a month or two at a time, and they had grown somewhat accustomed to not seeing him. Now that he had suddenly appeared in the dormitory, they found it rather unfamiliar instead. Counting back, the last time they had seen Tang Xuan must have been two months ago.
"Brother, how come you have so much free time today?" Tang San was puzzled. As far as he knew, ever since Tang Xuan founded the Heaven Sect, he had been busy from morning until night, never enjoying leisure like this. Could the newly established sect have gone under? No way, not with my brother's abilities! Tang San's mind was racing.
If Tang Xuan had known what Tang San was thinking, he probably would have beaten him to death.
Faced with their astonished expressions, Tang Xuan remained as unruffled as a light breeze beneath drifting clouds.
"I don't have anything to do today, do I? It's about time I took a break. What, am I intruding on your little world for two?" Tang Xuan teased them. The Heaven Sect's daily operations were already running smoothly, and with Lin Ao and the other two Soul Douluo overseeing things, Tang Xuan could now comfortably be a hands-off boss.
"Hmph! You rotten Brother Xuan! Fine, you're busy, but even when you have free time, you don't come spend it with me and Little San!" Xiao Wu pouted in displeasure.
"Aren't you two having plenty of fun without me? You go to my businesses to enjoy yourselves, then put everything on my tab. Xiao Wu, you must owe me over ten thousand gold coins by now!" Tang Xuan said with a playful look.
While Tang Xuan was away, Xiao Wu had taken Tang San on wild spending sprees at his various businesses. They never paid their bills, either, using Tang Xuan's name to eat and drink to their hearts' content.
"Well... Brother Xuan, didn't you already set a limit? I can't spend more than a thousand gold coins per visit, and I've followed that strictly," Xiao Wu said, looking slightly embarrassed.
Although Tang Xuan was not short of money, he could not make such an exception, so he had set a limit for Xiao Wu.
"As for those bills... just put them on Little San's tab!" Xiao Wu pulled Tang San into it as naturally as could be.
"Xiao Wu, you... I..." Tang San was left utterly speechless.
"All right, I'm only joking. One of you is my little brother, and the other is my sister-in-law. How could I take your money?" Tang Xuan continued teasing.
Tang San hurriedly explained, "Brother, you've misunderstood. Xiao Wu and I really..."
"Exactly, exactly! Brother Xuan, we're all family," Xiao Wu said breezily, completely missing Tang Xuan's choice of address and his teasing. Probably only a blockhead like Tang San remained unaware of her feelings.
"Come on, Brother Xuan, it's been ages since you sparred with me and Little San. How about we have a match?"
"Didn't you two just finish fighting? Aren't you tired?" Tang Xuan was beginning to suspect that this rabbit was hyperactive.
"Brother, Xiao Wu and I have both made some progress lately. We want to see exactly how far we still are from you." Even Tang San took the rare step of challenging him. He had always treated Tang Xuan as the goal he chased. He did not ask to defeat him, only to narrow the gap a little, so he could fight shoulder to shoulder with him rather than merely stand behind him.
Under their relentless coaxing and pestering, Tang Xuan could only agree. Having finally found some time to rest, he thought, Sigh! Outstanding as I am, you still can't work me like a mule! Heaven, you really didn't give me the protagonist's status or perks, but you certainly weren't stingy with the downsides of being one!
