Chapter 29: The Source of Evil. After driving back the little black monsters, Mu Chen and the others did not let their guard down for even a moment. They knew these monsters were only the tip of the iceberg of the evil power; the true threat still lay at its source. They continued deeper along the passage through the ruins. The air around them grew colder, and the evil presence grew heavier, as though pairs of invisible eyes were watching them from the darkness. At the end of the passage stood an enormous stone door. Its surface was covered in hideous carvings: demonic heads, suffering souls, and strange runes. These carvings and runes radiated powerful fluctuations of evil spiritual energy, sending chills down their spines. "The source of the evil power we're looking for should be behind this door," Mu Chen said gravely. He stepped forward and tried to push the stone door open, but it did not budge. He could sense a powerful restriction upon it, preventing anyone from entering easily. "There's a restriction on this door. We need to find a way to break it," Mu Chen told his companions. A cultivator skilled in restriction arts stepped forward to examine it. After carefully studying the runes on the door, he said, "This is an extremely ancient and complex restriction. It requires specific spiritual energy attributes applied in a particular sequence to unlock. I need some time to analyze it." The group set up defensive formations around the stone door to prevent further monster attacks while they waited for the restriction specialist to unlock it. As they waited, Mu Chen carefully examined the carvings on the door. He discovered that they seemed to tell a story-a story of the rise and destruction of a dark power. "Look at these carvings. They seem to be hinting at something," Mu Chen told his companions, pointing at part of the door. They gathered around and saw a black-robed man standing at the heart of the darkness, surrounded by endless death and destruction. In his hand was a sphere that radiated black light. Everything that light touched was corroded. "Could this black-robed man be the culprit behind all of this? That black sphere might be the core of the evil power," the cultivator in silver armor suggested. Just then, the restriction specialist shouted, "I've found a way to break it!" Everyone quickly gathered around him. Pointing at several runes on the stone door, he said, "We need to channel spiritual energy of specific attributes into these runes simultaneously. We must follow the correct sequence and keep our spiritual energy steady." Following his instructions, Mu Chen and several cultivators with the matching spiritual energy attributes took their positions. They drew deep breaths and channeled their spiritual energy into the runes at the same time. As the energy flowed in, the runes on the stone door began to flicker and hum. Suddenly, a surge of black spiritual energy poured out of the door and lunged at them. It carried tremendous impact and corrosive force, trying to stop them from breaking the restriction. "Hold on! Don't let your spiritual energy falter!" Mu Chen shouted. He increased his output, fighting against the black spiritual energy. The other cultivators gritted their teeth and held their energy steady as well. Through their efforts, the runes on the stone door grew brighter and brighter, and the black spiritual energy was gradually suppressed. At last, with a thunderous boom, the stone door slowly opened. An even more powerful evil presence washed over them, nearly robbing them of breath. They stepped through the stone doorway into an enormous circular hall. At its center stood a black stone platform, above which hovered a black sphere identical to the one depicted on the door. Black chains encircled the sphere, their surfaces covered in runes. Those runes flickered with an eerie light, seemingly suppressing the sphere's power. "Is this the source of the evil power?" a cultivator asked in a trembling voice. "It should be, but what's going on with these chains?" Mu Chen asked, frowning. As they puzzled over it, images of light and shadow appeared on the hall's walls, revealing scenes from the past. They saw that long ago, a group of powerful cultivators had sealed the sphere here. Those cultivators had forged these chains with their own lives and spiritual energy to prevent the evil power within the sphere from leaking out. "So this is an evil object that was sealed away. But why has it become active again now?" the cultivator in silver armor asked. Mu Chen approached the stone platform and carefully examined the sphere and its chains. He discovered tiny cracks in the chains, with black smoke constantly seeping out of them. This smoke was the very source of the evil spiritual energy they had encountered earlier. "These chains have been damaged. That's why the evil power is leaking out," Mu Chen said. "Then we need to find a way to repair the chains and seal this sphere again," a cultivator proposed. But just as they were about to act, sinister laughter suddenly rang through the hall. It seemed to come from every direction, making its source impossible to pinpoint. "You think you can simply seal it away again? How naive." An ethereal voice echoed through the hall. "Who's there? Show yourself!" Mu Chen shouted. Suddenly, a black shadow separated from the sphere and gradually coalesced into a human figure. The figure bore some resemblance to the black-robed man depicted on the stone door. Black mist shrouded his entire body, concealing his face. "You ants dare interfere with my plans," the black-robed man said with a cold laugh. "You're the one controlling all of this? Why are you doing it?" Mu Chen demanded. "Hmph. I will break this seal and release the power within the sphere, making the entire Spirit Road my domain. With this power, I will reshape the world and make every living being bow before me," the black-robed man declared arrogantly. "You won't get away with it! We won't let you destroy the Spirit Road!" Mu Chen said angrily. "Then try and stop me." With those words, the black-robed man waved his hand and attacked. A shock wave of black spiritual energy swept toward them, far more powerful than the attacks of the shadows and little monsters they had faced earlier. Mu Chen and the others reacted immediately, unleashing their strongest defensive skills. Spiritual Energy Shields lit up before them, but under the black-robed man's attack, the shields shook violently. Several cultivators with weaker cultivation were struck by the shock wave and coughed up blood. "Everyone, attack him together!" Mu Chen shouted. He unleashed Wrath of the Starry Firmament, the strongest form of Star Transformation, fusing the vast power of the stars with his own spiritual energy and blasting it toward the black-robed man. The other cultivators unleashed their ultimate techniques as well, sending a rain of spiritual energy attacks crashing toward him. Yet the black-robed man remained unruffled in the face of their onslaught. With a sweep of both hands, he formed the black mist into a barrier before him, easily blocking their attacks. "Your power is far too feeble. You cannot stop me," the black-robed man sneered. Mu Chen's heart sank. He knew this black-robed man was immensely powerful. They would have to find another way to defeat him, seal the evil sphere again, and save the Spirit Road. In the gaps between attacks, he began considering how to respond while surveying the hall, hoping to find clues that could give them an advantage. He noticed ancient statues in the hall's four corners. They looked like guardians and radiated a peculiar spiritual energy fluctuation. Mu Chen suspected that these statues might be part of the seal. Perhaps they could use them to strengthen the seal or fight the black-robed man. "Everyone, pay attention to those statues! They might be the key!" Mu Chen shouted to his companions. They fought their way toward the statues, hoping to find a way to use them, turn the tide of battle, stop the black-robed man from releasing the evil power, and protect the Spirit Road from utter catastrophe.
