Chapter 18: The key item. After a hard-fought victory over the guardian beast of the Forbidden Grounds, Mu Chen and the others dragged their weary bodies onward to continue exploring. They knew the key item needed to activate the secret weapon had to be nearby. It was the central goal of their adventure, and the clan's hope of standing against the Black-Robed People. Smoke and dust from the battle hung over the Forbidden Grounds, and devastation lay all around them. Ancient runes on the walls flickered in and out of sight amid the fluctuations of spiritual energy, as though pointing the way forward. Mu Chen led the group, his gaze blazing like a torch as he searched every corner that might conceal the key item. Suddenly, Tang Qian'er pointed at a stone platform a short distance ahead. "Look, that stone platform seems unusual." Everyone turned toward it. The stone platform gave off a faint glow that carried an ancient, mysterious aura. Its surface was covered in intricate patterns and runes, some of which resembled those they had seen while researching how to activate the secret weapon. Mu Chen cautiously approached the stone platform. He could sense a subtle connection between the spiritual energy fluctuations emanating from it and the secret weapon. When he reached it, he discovered a circular recess at its center, just large enough to hold a fist-sized object. "This recess must be where the key item goes, but where is the item?" Mu Chen frowned in thought. They began searching around the stone platform for clues. Tan Qingshan discovered a mural on the wall beside it depicting an ancient ritual. In the painting, a figure in magnificent robes stood beside a similar stone platform, holding a glowing sphere and placing it into the recess. Then the platform in the mural blazed with light, illuminating the surrounding space. Within that radiance, they could faintly make out a sword resembling the clan's secret weapon floating in the air, its blade shining brilliantly. "That sphere must be the key item, but the mural doesn't show where it is," Tan Qingshan said. Mu Chen studied the mural closely and noticed that certain details seemed to hint at the sphere's location. Its glow echoed some of the star patterns around it, and several constellation-like patterns surrounding the platform pointed toward a particular direction in the Forbidden Grounds. "Let's search that way," Mu Chen said, pointing in the direction indicated by the constellation patterns. They headed that way, encountering quite a few small spiritual energy restrictions and traps along the route. Though weaker than those they had faced before, they still caused some trouble. As they passed through a curtain of spiritual light, attack runes suddenly appeared across it, releasing volley after volley of spiritual energy arrows at them. Mu Chen swiftly unleashed his new spiritual technique, shaping star power into a Spiritual Energy Shield before the group. The arrows struck the shield, scattering sparks of spiritual energy. His companions also unleashed their spiritual techniques to help him fend off the attack. Through their combined efforts, they finally passed through the curtain of spiritual light. Continuing onward, they reached the entrance to a hidden chamber. Its door was tightly shut and covered in the same runes they had seen on the stone platform and mural. Mu Chen stepped forward and tried to open it with spiritual energy, but the door did not budge. "There's a restriction on this door. We need to solve the rune puzzle to open it," Mu Chen said. They began studying the runes. After careful observation, they discovered a pattern connecting them, one that seemed related to the paths of the stars and five elements power. Drawing on his understanding of star power and his control over the spiritual energy of the five elements, Mu Chen began trying to solve the puzzle. Following the positions of the stars and the sequence in which the five elements generated and overcame one another, he touched the runes on the door one by one. When he touched the final rune, the chamber door gave a low rumble and slowly opened. A powerful surge of spiritual energy rushed out to meet them. At the center of the chamber stood a stone platform bearing a brilliantly glowing sphere-the very item they were searching for. The sphere's surface seemed to consist of countless tiny stars, which slowly revolved within it and emitted a dazzling array of colors. Its radiance held a pure and powerful spiritual energy that made them instinctively want to draw closer. "We finally found it!" Tang Qian'er said excitedly. But when Mu Chen reached out to take the sphere, the surrounding spiritual energy suddenly turned violent. Beams of spiritual light shot from the chamber walls, weaving together into a cage that trapped them inside. "What's going on?" Tan Qingshan asked in surprise. "This must be the final safeguard, to keep the key item from being taken so easily," Mu Chen said. They tried to break the spiritual energy cage, but its power was immense, and their attacks had almost no effect. Inside the cage, the spiritual energy kept compressing, leaving them less and less room as tremendous pressure bore down on them. Mu Chen focused and examined the cage's beams of spiritual light once more. He discovered a convergence point at the top where the spiritual energy fluctuations were relatively weak. "Focus your attacks on the convergence point at the top!" Mu Chen shouted. They gathered all their strength and attacked the convergence point at the top of the cage. Under their combined assault, a crack appeared there, and the spiritual energy cage began to loosen. Seizing the opportunity, they intensified their attacks and finally broke through it. Mu Chen quickly picked up the sphere. The instant it touched his hand, he felt its spiritual energy resonate with the spiritual energy and star power within his body. He knew this sphere was the final key to activating the secret weapon. Carrying the sphere, they hurried back to the stone platform where the secret weapon rested. When they placed it into the recess, the entire platform blazed with light that shot straight into the heavens. That radiance filled the surrounding space, and the runes within it seemed to come alive, beginning to revolve around the sphere and platform. The secret weapon also sensed this power. It trembled violently, releasing a series of humming sounds. Its runes echoed those on the platform and sphere, creating a powerful resonance of spiritual energy among the three. Amid the radiance and humming, they watched the secret weapon begin to transform. Its blade grew brighter, and the runes upon it shone with unprecedented brilliance. New embellishments appeared on the hilt, seemingly formed from condensed star power and exuding a mysterious aura. "We did it! We found the key item to activate the secret weapon, and we've activated it!" Mu Chen said excitedly. But they knew this was only the first step. Next, they needed to familiarize themselves with how to use the secret weapon so it could unleash its full might in battle against the Black-Robed People and bring the dawn of victory to their clan. Bathed in its radiance, they gathered around the secret weapon and began studying how to control it more effectively, preparing for the great battle to come.
